So guys,

I need to address the missing parts to complete the linkage between carbs and main shaft.

Below are the 2 part I have A and B.

From what I have been told my kit is an early autotechnik kit and the linkage should use the rotule arms.

So the arms I have ''B'' are for later model.
However I wanted to know if the little connecting parts that go on each carb ''A'' are correct for my kit ?

Also does anyone know where I can find the right rotule pieces, and the linkage lever that goes on the main shaft?

any help would be greatly appreciated, can't wait to get that express kit working.

PostPosted: Sat Feb 25, 2017 7:49 pm    Post subject: Jet sizing Reply with quote

today I got a set of new jets for the dual carb,

but I need to verify if what I got fit the 6142 express configuration?

this is what I have:
Main Jet: 105
Air correction Jet: 200
Float: do I need to change it ? -> I know earlier kit had 12.5g brass float but with later 28PCI is still the same? currently I have the original float which are made of plastic.
Venturi: do I need to change the venturi considering that the ones I have in place are 21.5mm (plastic made) ?
Emultion tube: I got a brand new pair of emultion tube but I could not find the reference on them. I can post picture if someone is able to recognize what I got.
Is there any other jets size that should be changed ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jerome

I have a pair of modified Express Manifolds, but my setup may be a little different to yours:
- Modified stocks heads , flycut 2mm for 7.5:1 compression and 33mm intake valves
- Speedwell USA 1.4:1 Ratio Rockers
- Vintage Speed TW Sebring Exhaust

I have the following jets:
Main Jet 112.5
Air Correction Jet 190
Emulsion Tube 10

I've only had these jets a few weeks as I have just installed rebuilt carbs. I previously had the suggested 'Express' jets set out here:

https://felix03.jimdo.com/die-vergaser/der-solex-28-pci-vergaser/

It is difficult to compare the two as the previous jets were in worn out carbs. My intention is to see how the latest setup goes and swap over jets if needed.

Hope this helps

Richard

thank you for the link,

Seems like I have the right main jet and air correction jet.

About emulsion jet I will have to check again if the nos one I got has the right size.
However seems like I am missing the idle air jet size (1,2mm)

Here is a little memo to help remember which part need to be verified to get the proper jet setup on the 28 PCI carb for the express kit.

The question I always have looking at that table is why do Express and Riechert suggest different jetting for what is essentially the same set up (ie both dual 28PCI with 21.5mm venturi on otherwise stock 30hp engines)?

I know very little about jetting, but does the larger air correction jet and smaller main jet suggested by Express give a similar outcome to the larger main jet and smaller air correction jet suggested by Riechert (I've been looking at http://www.aircooled.net/vw-carburetors-jetting-102/).

With my setup (as listed above) it seems to be running rich at high RPM...but with larger intake valves, higher compression, ratio rockers and improved exhaust I'd expected it to be lean with the Riechert recommended jetting...am I wrong?

Sorry to hijack the thread but good to keep this discussion together?

Thanks, Richard

Hi everyone,

Here are some updates.
I got the engine back from the builder and have been working during the past month to adjust the express kit.

I was missing the hinges and linkage to activate the carburator, so based on pictures I was able to make my own pieces.

I started from simple flat metal bar that I bended and drilled.

And after adjusting and cuting I ended up with that result.

So here is the final setup:

I replaced the air filter with correct period mann, and put a judson coil which add the final oldspeed touch.

I have build also an engine starter by using a half gearbox split case.
I am just left with filling the oil filter and get the case put in pressure before sartup and carb adjustments.

Great setup! Looks very cool.
Forgive my ignorance, but would such a set increase torque, topspeed or both?

I'm looking into getting some more out of my 36hp one day (in a splitbus)

Hi Peter, I guess it would add few more hp around 10-20% range more.
I also put domed piston which might help to get few more HP too.
When I get a chance, I will also install 4 tip abarth muffler which should allow few more extras HPs.

In other vintage speed build thread I saw people to increase valve diam to same size as the okrasa setup.

Thanks for your explanation.
I've been looking into the okrasa setup yes Cool
I reckon I first have to study the possibilities a bit more.

I am working on the carb adjustment and wanted to check the stroke fule adjustments.
I am off by 50% right now, so I am going to build a custom accelerator pump arm to adjust the amount of fuel injected by stroke.

When looking at the making the volkswagen GO it says that 10 stroke = 2.5 to 3 ml for ten stroke.
