I got it in a swap. I was told it was an all original 50hp motor. Warning, big pictures for detail! 56k users don't bother clicking Smile

I wanna have a better idea of what it is before I put it up for sale. It and all the stuff in that directory are going on ebay or the classifieds here or both, in the next day or so. So if you see anything in there of interest, speak now Smile

But anyway, what can you tell me about the motor?

I may be wrong (not real experienced in engine ID) but it looks to me like it is a 1500 / 53hp from the code. That's going directly out of my manual for HO series engines.

I second that. "H" series engines were used in the mid to late '60s

I believe H cases were 1500cc cases used 1967 through 1970 on single port engines, and had a tendency for the headstuds to pull out of the
bolck.

From http://type2.com/bartnik/enginecodes.htm

The H0 series is from a '67 Bug or a '65-'67 Bus. It is a 1500cc. The '68-'69 Bugs had a H5 series engine with the emissions equipment.

An "H series" case just means that the first letter in the engine number is an H. Every time VW changed somthing major about an engine, they would usualy change this letter or in some cases (ha) two letters. So basicaly, its just an easy way of finding out what engine you have.
