Topic says it all. Im very confident in my local auto machine shop to do a job like this, but has anyone done this apposed to buying an aftermarket one? Can this be done? I'm really only looking to go through the trouble if its a noticeable upgrade. It's a 1600 dual port with a weber 40 which makes it a little peppy I guess. Would lightening the flywheel give me that launch I'm looking for? Surprised I just put a new clutch in and got me thinking. Thanks

I throw mine on the lathe and lighten them myself. All you need is a four jaw chuck, dial indicator and patience. However, they MUST be balanced after they are lightened. Will you see any power difference, nope. You didn't mention the car, but I have a general rule of thumb, the lighter the car, the lighter the flywheel. So if this engine is in a Baja with a stock trans, leave it. However if it is a light rail at the dunes, go for it.

It is in a baja with a stock trans so I'll take your word for it and just leave it .
I read about the piston kits to convert to a 1641 or something close to that which required NO machine work to the heads, and I think there was a 1681? Kit that required a little work to the heads. Now are these worth it? Noticeable power increase large or small or any?
Thanks
