Thanks, it actually wasn't difficult at all. My plates were pretty straight and not rusty. I followed this link..http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87382. I used acrylic enamel spray paint and a small heater to bake in between coats. Did them both 2 days.

Did a compression check after having this car for almost a year. 110-120 psi on all four cylinders. Got lucky with this one.

Did a full tune up after that. It's running great!

They look great; looks like that would be a difficult job.

strip paint off plate ; several heavy coats WHITE paint, let dry thoroughly.
one light coat black...let dry thoroughly.......with a sanding block ; carefully sand black paint off the white letters.....clear coat...

Not difficult ; tedious Smile

make shure you get it registered BEFORE YOU RESTORE ; some states won't approve a restored plate

Had fun hanging out in the garage performing 3,000 mile maintananace on my bug...adjusted valves, changed oil, serviced air cleaner, adjusted brakes, lubed front end, adjusted tire pressure, and corrected an exhaust clamp that had loosened and worked its way out of position.

I can't decide which is more enjoyable...working on or driving this ol' girl Very Happy

Got my Speedhut speedometer installed. Still need to run the wire for the tach. Used the high beam light for the oil light. Also ran the turn signal wires to each turn signal so the lights in the speedo work as they should. Couldn't be happier.

It was this one. They're having a sale right now.
http://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR4.5-DUALGPS-ST-04T...high-beam)

I paid $393 all said and done. They custom build all their gauges so be prepared for a wait. I order this on February 24th. It shipped on March 21st and arrived today (the 23rd). So right at a month from order to install.

Here's a crappy night time picture.

Tomorrow, if it's not raining, I plan on getting under the car to begin at least the visual process of front trans mount replacement.

Drained and refilled my transaxle oil. Successfully avoided getting smelly oil all over my chest and neck by sticking a hose in the oil bottle and draining it into a long funnel stuck in the fill hole. Drained slowly, allowing me to reflect on life's little pleasures, and also to stop the draining as soon as the oil level reached the hole.

Took out old leaky master cylinder and installed new one. Found out after installing, that rubber plug for brake fluid line would not go into hole in the MC. Had to take MC out of the car to shove the plug into the MC and then reinstall.

Must have been VW Karma for avoiding the smelly trans fluid. Wink

Yeah, between the trans oil change and the MC install, it was kind of a "lost weekend". Laughing

Where did you buy this tire at? What is the width of the BRM it's mounted on?

I went to a local you pull it and picked it up for $10. It is mounted on an 15x5 EMPI BRM. Hope this helps.
