I know that '74 is the year they went to the round tubular bumper mounts on the Beetle. Were there some produced with the older flat bumper mounts? Mine has the same fenders with flat mounting brackets and bumpers as a '73, but it is a '74 standard, not super. |

73 fenders fit on a 74, but the bumpers will not fit.
As far as I know, no 74 was produced with the older 73 style bumpers. _________________ Glenn

Do the numbers on the body match the number on the chassis. I believe the vehicle is titled by the number on the chassis. Could be you have a 73 body on a 74 chassis. _________________ shakers73

Black fender welting, so the car has been repainted. They could of put 73 fenders and bumpers on.
What's the VIN and the sticker on the drivers door jam.?
Pictures of the engine and inside the fenders where the bumpers mount. _________________ Glenn

Vin on chassis is a '74. That's the vinon the title. Looks like sticker on door has been painted over. No vin plate under front hood or on dash. |

The vin number on the tunnel is the vin on the title. It's a '74 vin number checked that out. |

this isnt by any chance a swingaxle? cause a non-us spec car might have early style bumpers....if the vin number showed an incredibly early production date maybe its legit but most likely its a body swap or a tag job |

Quite often, when people are "restoring" impact bumper late models, they will put the earlier thin slot bumper mount fenders on because the impact bumper mounts are impossible to find. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Hi,
she canīt be Mexican, because Mexican Beetles have swing axles and until 1986 a smaller rear window.
European Beetles kept these bumpers until August 1974 (model 1975) and changend then to the weaker bumpers with turn signals in the front bumpers. |

It's very odd that the engine has a alternator and the correct AL78.
Very interesting... it must be rare and very valuable. _________________ Glenn

Probably not a rare vehicle. Since there is no vin plate on the body, my guess is it's a 73 on a 74 chassis. |

Try some paint thinner on a rag and you should be able to remove it... carefully. _________________ Glenn

I thought that the wheel housing panels for the bumper brackets where slightly different between the crumplezone type and the shock type? _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town. There is a red one, a green one ......

What is this? Looks like some sort of ID tag on the drivers side door frame.

Not factory. There should be a VIN sticker on the "B" post, that's the "A" post.
