I am looking for anyone familiar with the rear heater vents shown here.
My 1963 model (Chassis 5 288 727) was before the 2 heat levers on the transmission hump were available.
The picture above shows a type of manual affair that somehow goes over the two approximately 2" tubes under the rear seat. These then seem to come through the kick panels through some type of donut like affair.
This set up then lets the user control the incredible flow of warm air coming from the fresh air exchanges manually from there, provided the heat knob up front is open (which I happily have functioning now).
There is not much info out there on this but it is one of the last areas I'd like to complete on my 63 Sunroof.
It looks like I found the donut part 113 255 499 but still need the vent bits. A-38, A-39 and A-41 in this picture.
Some more info I have gleaned from a seller is:
Part Number
113 255 485 B Insulation - Distribution pipe rear
113 255 486 A Insulation - Distribution pipe rear
113 255 529 B Flap-Foot level heating, rear
113 255 541 Knob- Flap
Any info or information on potential sources would be great.
Thank you, MSP

Search the Classifieds here on this website and if no luck posted a Wanted ad there.

I remember these on my 64... It was simple door on a small pivot. If you cant find the real deal...these can be made pretty easy with a little ingenuity and creativity..
This could be another good resource..
Soooooo....

Inside the rear heater duct on the year(s) indicated, should be a small flap with a lever and a knob that protrudes out of the opening, so the duct can be controlled on/off.
Robert, it looks like yours are either missing or broken off... which is most common... I can see a little stub sticking out of your passenger side duct... ... Thats it., well part of it.... Pictures of it and inside would help these guys.....
Thanks for the help by the way...

Yep... thats them... .
>>Robert... thats perfect
These are very similar to the 65 up wire controlled flaps with a simple handle instead... You can tell the door metal is a little thicker than the later flaps..
And frankly.... I think these worked way better than the cable controled style.

Hi
Thanks everyone for your help.
I did find the main parts: the flaps with the knobs and the donuts.
Time to make the rod those attach too. Should have this done by the time is 100 in Texas
Thanks Samba folks! _________________ Love da' Bug |

If I can add a question on this topic, does anyone make the rubber grommet that fits on the kick panel? Also the round handles on the levers?
If only used is available has anyone made their own |

Good and rare photos!
But my '63 has plate like them but with a red oval rubber gasket on the edge, to better seal hot air when closed. |

Not sure about Italy.. but..
The red silicon seal around the edge didnt start until later years after 67 I think. .
Maybe someone retrofitted a set into your 63 .
The 65's simply used a metal flap attached to the control cable.
These are later to help provide a better seal in the tube.

Great! I have exactly the ones in the last photos, silicone not rubber, probabily a retrofit when car was owned by my parents.
Now I have to find a sort of levers to fit them.
For now I move them with a finger in the hole but when hot it is painful. |
