Hi All

Another question from a guy who has been mental about buses all of his life but knows very little about them. I have just searched the forums here for some info but am still quite confused on the exact age and spec of what I have brought recently.

The guy I brought the bus from says he thinks it is a 56 panel van but is unsure of if it was an American spec or Euro spec. I thought I would throw this out to the pros out there and beg for assistance before i sink to much cash into building something out of date and the completely wrong spec.

The number under the ID plate reads: 216062
tyo Vw 2/21
zul gesamtgewwicht kg 1850
zul achslasl vorn kg 950
fahrgestell n 216062 (september 56?)
baujahr ??
bottom line illegible 1000

thank you in advance and apologies for what is probably a ridiculous question.

Rhys

VIN # 216062 is November, 1956 (1957 model year)

The easiest way to tell is if it has front turn signals.
Front turn signals on nose = N. American spec
No turn signals, with semaphore turn signals on side of Bus = Euro spec

Also a N. American spec Bus will have bubble taillights and reflectors out back.
Euro spec is just flat taillights, no reflectors.
Both have the center brakelight decklid.

Hope you don't mind if I chime in here - on my 63 SC I have the taillights with the 2 bulbs, would that make this a euro spec? All the wires look original. Thanks

The two bulb/two tone taillights are eurospec 62-70.
They can be retrofitted, though.
What is on your M-code plate?
Euro spec buses 63 and on tend to have steering locks. Do you have one?
Do you have treasure chest doors both sides?

56split... Check the glass thread in the split bus faqs. I think that us spec had laminated glass, euro had toughened. The logos should help identify, if the original glass survived.

I'm posting from my phone on a train so hard to check, but do I remember your van from a few weeks back? (Either the front panel was changed and no indicators added, of someone plated over the semaphores, so you couldn't tell from the lights?)

Here is a pic of the bus from the gallery. It does look like the nose might have been changed.

Thanks - no M code plate, dual treasure chests and no steering lock.

Thanks - no M code plate, dual treasure chests and no steering lock.

I'd think a euro spec truck would have a steering lock, and 95% would have one treasure chest door.
Write for your BC for more info.
