What thickness of tube? |
. 065 3/4 mild steel.
I work at a steel supply / fab shop and talked a few custom fab rack guys ears off before deciding.. I was skeptical to use such thin tube but as they all said the same thing, I went with it and it turned out strong!

Nice Rack!
Loving that I can see your pictures now. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

Did you use any rust treatment on the inside of the roof rack tube,if not then you should,it will rust out very quickly. |
There is no moisture or way for water to get into the tubing. I am going to get it powder coated soon, we will see if it rusts through In due time I guess _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

A lot has happened since my last update.. I drove to Eugene and bought a Z bed for a steep price, and even after 5+ hours refabbing brackets, I think it will save me time and be the most comfortable option. I wanted a campmobile bed because the typical westy ones are not comfortable.. But the bed I bought was designed to have the cabinet on the passenger side of the bus.. So I have to take the brackets off, and cut them apart and re-weld them completely different.
With some major help from my current roommate, I build 1/2 of my 1st cabinets as well... Slow and tedious with all those curved angles.

I quit my job on Friday, they knew I was leaving soon but I have a ton to do on the bus before I move into it in 1 month. I accidentally got hired that same day though, doing as many hours as I want paid well in cash to help convert full size vans into campers. Learning a ton there, if you're in the area check out Van Guys of bend.

Some more updates. I have moved to California again, and sold all my vw parts. Got new (old) seats from a later 76 bus installed, my CVT awning installed, roof rack rebuilt.. Waiting on my new engine to be finished (it's being built right now)

What charge controller did you get? Are you going to get another battery so you have 200w panels and 200ah batteries?

I'm using the wanderer renogy controller and an external voltage readout.
No. 200 ah of battery would typically take more than a day for 200 watt to charge. If I find that my battery charges much before the end of the charge day, I can add another battery down the line. For my minimal needs don't require much energy anyway. _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |
