|
|
I have a white 2001 T4 weekender and we are getting the windows tinted soon. Our objective is for comfort, heat rejection while driving in the direct sun. We are not going for privacy and don't want to black out, just a modest application for comfort.
I was thinking 35% on the drivers and rear hatch with 25-30% on the rear/side panels.
Any suggestions here? The guy doing it for me uses Johnson Metallic film, I presume this is their economy stuff such as the silhouette line. At $200 installed vs the $600+ my local shop quoted its hard to complain. |

I've gone with 3M tints in the past which does great for a glaring sun. I don't feel that the 3M material does much for heat rejection though. My understanding is that you need to go with a ceramic tint for heat rejection. The ceramic tints come in many shades. There is a picture of a 50% ceramic tint on the cavevan website: http://www.cavevan.com/forum/index.php?topic=102.msg685#msg685
I hope this helps. _________________ - Bill, '93 Eurovan Syncro Weekender (2.5 manual ACU) |

The first tint shop (The Tint Lady in Bellingham, WA) quoted me $600 + tax for 3M entry level film. After talking to some friends I found another local (Rafael at Pro Tint) and got hooked up using Johnson Marathon film which is a hybrid metallic/dye film with a good reputation; he did the whole van for $250 out the door. I went with 30% which I can still see out of well in the evenings. I'm pleased with his work as well.
This picture was after sunset and a bit overcast which I think makes it look darker than it is.
