I'm planning to replace the ATF and filter on my '99 EV. For my own curiosity (and, perhaps, frustration): does the torque converter have a drain plug? _________________

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor. |
I don't think electrickery works that way |

Ug!
I'll add it to the list of things to do when the transmission eventually needs to come out. _________________

Over all of my years of working on auto transmissions, I suggest this for ones that have never changed the oil or bought a used unknown vehicle. Change the oil and filter. Then do it again in 5K. After that, do it every 40K.
If you want to get much more of the oil out, then pull the valve body, take it apart and clean it. In the end, the torque converter holds about 1/2 qt of oil anyway.
This is just like and engine. You'd be amazed at the amount of oil left in the engine after you drain it. |

It's pretty ridiculous that they didn't include a TC drain plug. I suppose you could add one, but then it would need to be dynamically re-balanced. My MBs have all had drains, so it just seems to make logical sense to include them on all autos since there's not an insignificant amount of ATF held in the TC. _________________ Casey--

I don't ever remember a VAG product ever having a TC drain plug. |

I don't either. It still doesn't make sense. _________________ Casey--

I never seen the use for it anyway. It's nice to have but in the end, not really necessary. If you grenaded the transmission, you'll probably need to rebuild the torque converter anyway. If you want to get more ATF out, pull the heat exchanger (or oil cooler if you have one) and then pull the valve body. Take the valve body apart. That holds lots of oil. |
