I bought a longblock that was professionally built from a reputable builder in California. The motor has been on a rack for about 4 years. I installed it in my VW Thing. I have everything set but the timing won't run at 7.5 btdc. It runs with the vacuum highest around 20. 1600 cc bosch 009. Blue coil. I can get it to run perfect but even full advance is around 45. What am I doing wrong. I even switched distributors. Same thing. Motor runs great! Scat degree pulley. |

You probably have a vacuum leak. What carb/intake manifold are you running? You want no more then abiout 32 degrees max advance with an 009. At 40+ you will fry that engine. |

I am running a Pict 34 German Soles. I have checked for vacuum leaks and found none. Took the motor on a 100 mile drive and it's running and cooling great. No issues. Put a different timing light on it and it's the same. Full advance is closer to 45-48. I don't get it. |
