Why do not you use wheel caps?

I take my good tires and rims off for winter storage, the tires and rims in the pictures are the original factory tires and rims. I'll change them out in a couple weeks, once the weather warms:

I think the rims above are called Antares rims.

Aah, ok, I got it!

I don't have a Mexi- or Brazilian Beetle, but was just in Cuba on a family visit and was shocked at how many Beetles are still on the road. I didn't take as many pics as I would've liked but figured I'd share what I did here. The cars look to be a mix of Mexican, Brazilian and a german one or two. I did see one flat window Super Beetle w/the 1302 stamp on the decklid.

This is an official state agency car. The driver wasn't thrilled w/the camera:

This one's used as a taxi and is parked outside the Morro fortress at the entrance to the port of Havana.

This one had an engine from a Brasilia. Messed up and didn't get a picture of the engine however.

Saw several buses much nicer than this one but it's the only one I took a picture of.

Everything was "stock-ish" inside and out. No stingers or slammed Bugs anywhere.

I received some new parts for my roof from Deco Haus (in Germany) last week. Peter sent a pen, some postcards and stickers along with the parts:

The postcards are of various projects they have worked on, here is one for an 'Open Air':

Two of the braces (new ones top right in first picture) on my roof that hold the ribs apart are broken (the front two). I was able to do a temporary repair by shortening them, but the repair causes the roof not to completely fold flat, when open. It's obvious in this picture, taken last October:

This spring I'm going to see if I can replace the two ribs without removing the roof. If I can't I'll leave the roof as it is, but I expect I'll have to replace the whole roof within 5 years anyways.

I am still planning to replace the roof, I hope I will find some time for it this year.
Currently I am replacing the clutch of my super beetle, on which the pressure plate went bad.

Today it was 20 degrees celsius in the Netherlands for the first time this year. So, on a parts run for some home improvement stuff, I did a loong way home.
And I shot this picture:

the dutch countryside in your pic looks remarkably like the landscape you can see just south of Milan!

I know exactly what you mean, everytime we go on a Italy holiday to a location south of Modena, we have to travel through the Po delta. And that 100 km is like driving through the Netherlands. Everything is flat, and a lot of agriculture.
Which makes sense, because the Netherlands is also a delta made by three major rivers.

It's funny, because after driving more than 1200 kilometers south, it feels like we're back home. Smile

Your picture could have been taken in the Netherlands, it even has cyclists in it!

I spotted the shirt on eBay (UK). It's licensed by VW, good quality:

fighting the urge to go to carb and get a stock height lift with the deal of $500 total... or just keep the injection and pay $500 for the height only....?

Are thinking of converting the engine to carb. type1japan's 1600i was converted to carb, there is some info on this thread (way back). $500 sounds pretty optimistic for the conversion.

Do you have the technical manuals for the engine? PM me if not (I may have something that might help with your lean issues).

I think the guys are looking at the parts, throttle body manifolds ECU injectors and part harness....
which my main Machanic said $1k for the whole swap out with part discount since I have most...
the $500 is mainly to put to stock height
will PM for manual I have some from 1600i.de so anything more would be bonus

I remember the conversion gave him some icing issues as the 1600i manifold does not have heat risers.

edit: sotobaggins, IIRC your last issues were with the lambda sond (oxy sensor). It is possible something else electrical went bad sensor-wise. are you reading fault codes?

personally, I won't convert the car to carb (technically that would be illegal in Italy, but I like it original anyway)

come to think of it, it could be the coolant sensor as the last place they only cleaned it could it be the throttle body sensor?
.... I do have the proper manifolds for the conversion so I should not freeze...
Always Thanks for the advice
