Anyone ever install a double din in the package tray? Seems the de-froster duct would need to be removed as the box/case is the same height as the front plate ( no Problem ). Any other glitches?

Cecil-
I would be hesitant to remove the defroster duct; it does serve a useful purpose.

What is your goal? Are you looking for integrated phone and nav?
Possibly there is a unit with a detachable screen where the chassis could be mounted remotely. That would solve the mounting depth problem.
I did that with my Retrosound radio.
Another possibility would be to select a radio with Apple CarPlay (or Android equivalent) so a small tablet (or your phone) could be used for controlling the radio/phone/nav functions.

I use a "Ram" mount for my iPhone which provides music, phone and nav through my iPhone compatible radio and the car speakers.
In the Thing, I have found that a noise cancelling "lapel mic" is necessary for acceptable phone conversations because the noise level in a Thing (top up or down) is too much for a dash mounted mic.

Hope that helps, Mondshine

There are also single-DIN units where the screen pops out and folds upward to be viewed. That could go in-dash as many have done it or under the dash using an aftermarket box.

The under the dash unit would have to be fairly flush so it could effectively open properly. That's what I had thought about doing near the center. My ash tray would have either been deleted or moved to the right.
