Hey guys,

Need a HUGE favor. I am in the process of converting my 68 Ghia to short axle. I have purchased all the parts needed, but am in a serious pickle. I attempted to assemble the tube/end casting by heating the end casting and freezing (dry ice) the tube. The process didn't go as planned and need to press the two the rest of the way... Problem is... I don't know exactly how much further, I think about 3/4" but am not positive. There is a groove in the tube where the pin on the end casting is suppose to meet.

Please, if anyone has a short axle tube assembled with the end casting, I need a measurement. Pictured below is my assembly, I have drawn lines where I need someone to measure from. From the bell end of the tube to the mark on the end casting. I think its supposed to be around 18" or so.

PLEASE HELP!!

I trust you've read this tread?
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=330991

...and perhaps you can post future questions there. When you post in an existing tread topic, it triggers an email to anyone who has made a contribution there and that can act as a callout to interested parties. This is likely to work better for you than starting a new thread no one has yet seen.

Consider reposting this question in the existing thread as well.

Good luck
Nicholas

Decided to send my tubes off to Rancho for proper assembly... Will be back on track in no time. Now to order some rotors.

Despite it all being a monologue I'm glad to hear you are sorted with this.
Well done!

Yeah... Perhaps I should just keep it to myself... Like anyone else will have issues with a short axle conversion. Wink

Are you trying to remove the end casting and put it on your existing tube? If so, why didn't you just replace the entire tube assembly? You have to take them completely off to swap the axle. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work.

Planning on a 17X7 rim.

No, I bought used short axle end castings, bearing caps, tubes, boots, axles, etc. More or less building from scratch.
