Thanks Schwing, appreciate the compliments, and the info on the glass polish.
So the back window went in yesterday wanted to post some picks. Thanks Dave for your help.
Doors going together next. Also ordered a Sewfine interior for Schultz, so stand by.

Hello folks,
Moving into some of the final stages of this build, the doors. I am trying to use mostly original parts including the original large Sekurit logo glass. Using all new seals and window felt slides only. So far no paint scratches.
Was able to remove the glass and seals from the vent windows, have sent the vent frames for rechroming.
Before and after on the cleanup on the vent window friction mount.
I know you can't tell but the original window is installed. Restored the lift mechanism and installed it. Had to replace the window metal sash and seal as the sash was rusted off. Will take photos of the other window have to do the same thing.
Close up of the large window logo.
More pics to come as the doors go together.

Looks great! This task definitely gives your fingers a workout.
I wish I could observe one day when they originally did it...there has to techniques or tools we just don't know about.
The inner scrapper is the biggest pain. The vent window rubber is a challenge, but at least there is plenty of room to work |

Thanks for the comments guys. It has been interesting, but not as hard as I thought. As I said I sent the two vent window frames and the latch plates to be rechromed hopefully back in a week or so. But got the rest together on the passenger side.
So installed the door and running board chrome on the passenger side and took a photo. Looks like it's almost done from this side.
Russ I decided to go with Sewfine for the seat covers and door panels. You have to wait to see what I chose. So stay tuned.

Thanks bwaz, yes coming to Vancouver in August for sure.
Getting doors ready for door panels:
I also restored the jack that came with the bug.
Photo of the pieces back in the car.
Working on restoring the rear seat bottom now while I wait for my vent wing frames to come back chromed, my seat cushions, and the interior.
Stand by,

Thanks Fifty-Eight Rag.
Hello Mika, thanks for letting me know about the seals. I searched the samba photos trying to find which way to install the seal without any luck. I had the bottom ones correct. I have now swapped the forward/upper seal, but will leave the aft edge as is, as it took some time to get it to fit properly. Better?
Thanks, Mike _________________ "Schwing wrote:

Hello all, been waiting for the rechromed vent window frames to come back from the platers and my interior to arrive.
Got the original big logo Sekurit glass back in the original frame and seal, then reinstalled on the right hand door. New rubber a little snug, but like everything else should lighten up after awhile.
Also started to install the interior panels. Got the two rear panels in. Right hand side has the original ashtray back installed.
Working on the right hand door panel now, had to recover the arm rest myself, thanks to Sewfine for sending me extra fabric and trim for it. More pics to come.
Cheers,

Looking good, but I'm curious why you didn't mount the trim strips across the panels? They definitely add to the appearance, and are era-correct. They're $48 from Wolfsburg West.

Had one original trying to restore. Looks better I agree.
The other trim pieces were missing or destroyed. So waiting for WW shipment to arrive. Will take back pieces back off to install.
Also note my restored original armrest, thanks Sewfine for the extra material to do that.
Stay tuned.

Hey txoval. The panels are from Sewfine. One colour 4 piece set is $320 plus additions for pockets two colour etc. See the link to the online catalogue: (page 19)
http://html5.publicationprinters.com/default.aspx?...54d77b4278
Got the passenger door panel installed and handles on, hardest part of door assembly in my opinion. Have to wait to install the drivers side until the chrome trim arrives to install, not putting that panel on twice!
Also got the drivers side original glass, seal and vent window frame reassembled. Reinstall tomorrow.
Stay tuned,

So I managed to reassemble the original drivers side Securit glass back in the rechromed frame yesterday and reinstalled it back on the car today.
Then I got onto covering the rear seat bottom. A few pictures showing the procedure. Quite a work out.
Still waiting for the chrome trim pieces for the door and rear panels to arrive. Moving on to the front seats next.
Stay tuned,
