I was DREADING cleaning my undercarriage but yours came out looking great! I'd love to know where you got phosphoric acid and the exact product you used. I was hoping to find it on Amazon. Very Happy

Looks great and thanks for sharing.

Thanks. It was worth the effort.

I buy my phosphoric from ebay.uk - £20 for 5 litres of 85% phosphoric acid.

I'd guess you can buy it from ebay.com?

Sounds like I have a plan of attack for the undercarriage now, so thanks. Smile

I use a product called Ospho, and I buy it at my local hardware store. It is very thin, so a little goes a long way.

I got the bus out on a beautiful evening and chauffeured my son and his girlfriend to his senior prom.

How cool is that for your son? Rolling to the prom in a $100k VW. Looks like your downtown by the new football stadium.

Moved my 67 13-window up by the garage last week. Drained the gas, and got about a shot glass full of dirt out of it. Drained the oil, it was like tar. Cleaned and replaced the oil filter. Adjusted the valves. Put on some nicer valve covers that I had. Cleaned the engine three times. New distributor cap. I was pleased to learn that my Bus had a 009 dizzy with Petronix points. A plus.
Removing the dash tray so I can get the windshield wiper assembly out to replace the busted off shafts.
Ordered a bunch of little stuff from Wolfsburg West.

I pulled my speedometer and managed to clean it up, added grease to the gears, lubed up the cable port, and added new color filters since the old gels had all but disintegrated. I touched up the face plate ring with some paint and added some white to the needle. Everything moves smoothly and looks pretty nice now. Smile

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results. There was a touch of rust on the faceplate but I just sanded it down and touched it up with a little Rustoleum. Very Happy

Finally got to the bus trim today. Originals were pretty rough, couldn't get the dings out... so ultimately decided to go with repro. Quality was good, nice compliment to new paint.... but took a lot of bending and configuring on the nose and front door pieces to make sure they match the belt line evenly. Pretty happy how it turned out. Rubber insert is next, just need a hot day!

Decided to finally clean the interior of my recent 62 15w found.
Seats, mat and panels turned out almost perfect :

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then i removed the rear floor mat, which obviously had never been done since new.
I discovered (in addition to a 100% rust free floor !!) these 2 cardboard plates under the middle seat. The bus is only 28000 km from new and nothing has never been desassembled on it before.

Does anyone noticed this before ? I'd be interested to know from what year it has been introduced and their purpose Smile.

By the way i discovered this hidden behind the rear kick panel. Some snow chains and a brand new period lift. It has probably been put their in the 60s and forgotten forever. Mint condition.

Ok. The bus is all original, low mileage, only 1 previous owner and never been disassembled so it is supposed to be original, even though i don't know their purpose and have never seen this before.

The more I go into the cleaning and the more I see how nice it is !
The condition is really impressive, especially for a french bus.

I'll post outside pics in the gallery later

Wow!

Since this Bus is so nice and original, I think it would be good for you to start a new thread for it to show it off. Please. Smile

Looking forward to this thread as it is only original once and will make a great archive.

The bottom hinge on the driver's door finally came loose. A friend showed me how to make a plate that could be bolted in to restore the hinge. Got the door back on and adjusted. Pretty good!

Put new shafts, arms and blades on the wipers. Still only one speed, but they park OK.

Tried to adjust the clutch to get it to disengage. No dice. Gotta pull the engine.

Wild guess: the little roller bearing inside the gland nut is chewed up and binding the input shaft. Confused

Let me know if I hit it right! Razz
