Now that the Hankooks have jumped up in price the decision between them and grabbers is much more difficult

$286.00 shipped free for all 4? that is hard to beat!

These are now $440, btw.

Are there any options now that are under $400 a set? I know cheap tires aren't good, but I also can't blow my whole engine rebuild budget on the grabbers or hankooks.

It appears that the R101 has several manufacturer names, Thunderer, Cordovan, Eldorado, Sigma, Power Master, Telstar, & Vanderbuilt.

I purchased a set (4) RA18's from a supplier in Amazon, I do know the price went up since I bought mine, but I had shipped to the door, $328. The Hankook's aren't bad, especially for the price. Last I looked they went up a hundred or so.
I love supporting our vendors and businesses of the VW world, but I spend enough on other things that I didn't want to drop a $100/tire then $60-$100 on shipping.
Look around, deals are out there.
I don't recall the business' name but they were out of PA and purchased through Amazon.
Local shops were looking around $800 mounted and balanced with some off the way tires.
Good luck.

Mine would be already on the Bus if I hadn't missed the fact that my harbor freight manual changer wouldn't work with the Wide-5 Rims..

Got a Chevy Adapter on the way..

When I bought mine, I noticed a few weeks later the price went up like this. I don't think the price has gone up on the Hankooks and won't come back down again. Shop around for sure. Check ebay and Amazon every week or two. I bet you'll see the price fluctuations on them.

Great, glad I could help. Let us know what you think of them, the only input that I have on them at the moment is that they hold the vehicle up much better than the previous ones.

I am running these Nexen's but in a 6 ply. 1500 miles so far, and no complaints. Have never ran a passenger tire, so I can't compare to that. https://www.ebay.com/itm/142352486330

In the UK we have a website called blackcircles.com

It is great for finding good deals on tyres and where you can get them local to yourself and also have them fitted.

Is there no equivalent in USA/Canada?

Are folks as satisfied with the RA18 as we all were with the RA08?
I loved my RA08's, and would have replaced with them in a split second. I actually preferred the plain sidewalls over the more sporty/aggressive pattern on the RA18. That said, I just got my wheels back from powder so I'll likely have a set ordered up within the week.

Im in the market, i see the HANKOOK VANTRA LT RA18 185/R-14 at simpletire for $64 each plus $21 ea shipping. Much less than busdepot at 100ea and 30ea ship.
Appears to be the same tire.

Does some one have a pict of these on their bus? I noticd 1 comment they have a more aggressive side wall and not smooth as the ra08

This is for my all stock 70 bus.

That looks like a decent deal, but it's not Canadian. I was hoping to find something this side of the border...

The very best deal I could find was at one of my local ford dealers in edmonton of all things.
I bought the general grabbers. And I hunted everywhere.
5 for a little over 600. No install or balance though. If your savy you could do that..
