Had to do the heater core on my mk4 daily this weekend, which meant that these two, who never see the snow, got a little taste of it.

From January 2007. A few VW friends and general vintage car enthusiasts and I put on plenty of warm clothes and heavy boots, and headed to Curboy's salvage yard in Sturbridge, southern Massachusetts. We wanted to discover and admire the many hundreds of vintage cars before the yard closed the next month. Most cars were American from the '40's thru the '60's, though there were about 30 VWs spread around. Winter worked out well because we avoided summer annoyances such as poison ivy, bees nests, mosquitoes, etc.

Another VW friend from CT who happened to also be there told us about this poor '59 Ghia Cabrio VIN #2426703. It had alot of original parts but they were either severely pitted or otherwise broken, and the floor was buckled up from rust. Remnants of the Ghia's black convertible top sit on the windshield. A small portion of the top we found lying in the interior had a zip-out rear window which although it was opaque due to age, had no tears. Here you can see that the original car color was white.

this was taken in '82/'83 during a harsh winter. I had just driven my '56 oval about 10 miles home from work early as I was the only one to show up apart from my boss! I remember him saying to the others 'but mark managed to get in with that old car of his...'. the bonnet release was frozen for a week and I was worried about running out of fuel.
