Hi.
I'm building a Beetle from the ground up. The pan is an early '68 that originally had an Autostick transaxle. Now it has a 4-speed manual.
Installing the transaxle has been simple so far, but I've run into a seemingly stupid problem. Yes I've used the Search function; please do not yell at me.
I'm trying to install the boot that sits between the input shaft and the frame. The nose cone boot is bulbous and vaguely triangular with three cut sections. The overall diameter is much too large into fit into the perfectly circular hole in the frame. The Haynes manual is of no help.
Is there a different boot that I'm supposed to use? I'm confused.
Thanks.

Hey there,
The triangular cutout side slips over the input shifter shaft and rest against the tranny.
Check out the photos.

Hi there. Thanks for replying.
You've got a body with your car. Lucky!
I'm afraid to say that I can't make out what's happening with the photo.
I've re-attached your photo here. Do you mean to say that in the red circle is where the boot goes? What goes in the blue circle?
Thanks!

Possibly not exact the same transaxle than your's but may be the pic helps to get an idea...
The boot goes not into the hole it just lies against the frame.

The logo faces the transmission, and the open end of the boot faces the chassis. The flanges on the transmission fit into the grooves on the boot. _________________ 1973 green Super Beetle |

Peeps,
Thank you all for helping me clarify the fitment.
I'm slightly troubled by the fact that no seal or boot seems to seal over the circular opening on both sides. Huh.
Anyway, the transaxle is mounted now and in place.
Thanks again! |
