There seems to be lots of camper van conversions on the market these days. But none can compare to the roominess and utilitarian-ness of our beloved vans. So what I've got hot foot. I'm riding high and loving life.

price is not bad consider its about 20k for the deluxe package plus you can get a used nv200 for about 12k-16k. _________________ 1980 2.8LV6 Fiero ASI/Riviera Vanagon

The Chevy City Express can also be used, as it is identical to the Nissan. _________________ 1981 Westfalia with a 2001 Cabrio ABA

For sure the 80's VW campers were masterpieces. I lived full time for over 4 years in a 1984 back in the 90's. Some of my fondest memories for sure.
Although these classics could never be replaced, we decided it was time to make an affordable, safe (airbags, crumple zones etc), camper van that would have the same goal in mind as the 80's VW campers, daily driver that is an amazing weekend warrior camper for average middle class Americans. We spent over 18 months designing just this one vehicle to utilize as much space and add as much function as possible for this platform.
Having a 100,000 mile Nissan factory warranty and getting 25 to 26 mpg doesn't hurt either. |

I have to say I admire all of the work you've done to bring an affordable van to market and does look nice from here. _________________ Don't break the law when you're breaking the law |

Thank you Wontfalia. We really try to not only focus on safety and practicality but we really push hard to build a very high quality product. We stay way from traditional "RV" parts and stick with either stainless steel marine parts or design and have our own built. Down to even the smallest detail like our push button latches which we have made for us out of stainless or our real aluminum tambour doors. We want to build something that in 30 years will still be going strong and cheap plastic just will not fit the bill.
Being a third generation automotive engineer, I guess the old 80's saying from for, Quality is Job One, really stuck along with my perfectionist mentality I inherited from my grandfather. We cut no corners and really put attention to every detail not only for function, but also future repairs (can't tell you how many campers I have had that required ripping half the van apart to change a part that you would always expect to need replacing in 15 years or so like a water pump). |

X3!
Too small and butt ugly.
VW already makes a replacement for the Vanagon with modern equipment, it's called the T5. Unfortunately VWofA won't import them to North America.
Couple more years and we'll be able to bring them to Canada! _________________ Currently:

Well done recon! I like The use of the double-slider and also the tambour door. It's been on my mind to use a tambour door in my high-top. Avoiding RV materials is also a good idea.
Keep up the good work. _________________ - Jim

Wow who own the Recon now? I have a westy but I would consider the Recon as a daily driver. I emailed the site for more info, updates to follow. _________________ American Red Cross Safe And Well:

Plus the Nissan engine of the VQ series has been in the top ten best engines ever made in the world for over 15 years. |

I like these- I’ve been wondering where a small, affordable replacement for the Vanagon was- not the big, ugly $80-100k Sportsmobiles. Maybe this is it- it looks pretty nice. I wanted to like the Honda Element poptop conversion but it really didn’t add much function, just a tent. And the Element is gone. _________________ 1991 Westy |
