What is this for?

I'am stripping the paint under the rear seats of my Thing. Need to do some rust repair. What are the brackets that are mounted under the rear seat for?

There is 1 on the driver side and the passenger side. I was thinking about cutting them off.

They are for mounting the NATO rife racks.

I think they are for mounting tools (wheel chok etc).

The one inside is for the rifle mount.

Great info, I've had plenty of ideas what they were for. Great to know what they were actually used for. Interesting that they were left in the civilian version sold in the US.
