Does anyone know which wheels go on a late 65 notch ? Ive seen early type 1 wheels and 66-67 slotted on them. I have both styles but need to know which to paint. Any help is appreciated. Tim. |

Tim, maybe try the type 3 gallery area on this site and look for original pics or at the owners manuals and you can determine it that way? I'm with you I've seen both, I think for sure they were supposed to have the 4.5" most early bugs came with 4"....But being a 65 I would think they were solid...???? |

Neither of those. The 64-65 type3 wheel is it's own thing. They're solid like the bugs but there are no hubcap clips. The bug ones will work though. jack |

it had a wheel very similar to the 66/67 bug in hub cap fitting but visually more like an early bus wheel. unique offset, too.
wheel is solid looking with 4 long slots like the bus wheel and a flat, push-on hubcap |

Only the early '61-'63 had the slots with 5 lug. Again it's unique to the t3. J |

Ok. Does this make sense; Three of the wheels on it are smooth like the pre 66 wheels of the beetle and no hub cap clips but instead it has the bumps for a 66-67 style beetle hub-cap. Looks like I can take a beetle early wheel, remove the hub-cap clips,mig-weld the bumps on them and shape them to hold the66-67 hubcaps and that will give me the fourth wheel. I believe the offset is the same but I haven't measured it yet. |
