I read gt1953's suggestion, and I thought it seemed like a cheap way to fix the issue. I mean, why not just get a new clutch shaft with its new hook.
Then I remembered when I purchased a new clutch shaft awhile back. The hole for the pin was off to the point that the clutch shaft wouldn't turn, once I drove the pin in. So that new stock (but aftermarket) clutch shaft was useless. I ended up buying the clutch shaft upgrade from Classic Bug Parts--the kind with the bearing--and it fit precision-perfect. But it was more expensive (but worth it) than the first attempt going with a stock shaft.
So, maybe welding up the old clutch shaft is not a bad idea for some folks. At least you'll know it will fit back in without binding.

What you could do would be take that to a weld shop in your area and have them just build up the area where the hook goes. |

I have given thought to having the factory one welded up if the aftermarket one I purchased doesn't fit; I do have a bench grinder here to clean up such weld. This is a horsey area, so not that tough to find someone who welds here. And I haven't ruled out that upgraded pedal hook style either. Maybe within a week I will tackle this.

Say won't Mrs Cusser be doing most of the driving on the vehicle? |
Mrs. Cusser will use the VW to drag the horse arena, doubt that she will ever want to drive it into town though.
I plan to use the VW as my local vehicle up here, to run into town to stores (3 - 5 miles away) and to drive to softball field twice a week (15 miles away). _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
