I can't believe how expensive stock rims are getting. And that looks like a nice set you won't have any trouble selling them. _________________ 56 PGSG OG paint Wilson Avenue church

Long story short, last week I got a free wheel
Original paint, solid, just one ding in the lip that can easily be pushed out. It is dated 12/63. That got me thinking, I know early 64's still used 15's, when was the switch made to 14's? This must be one of the last production 15" wheels I reckon? _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Yes, it does sound like one of the last normal production ones made, ignoring any dealer replacement ones made later.
Kinda interesting in a Bus nut way, sort of like the 1-2/1955 15" wheels when Buses were still using 16s.
From the 15" wheel FAQ thread:

On December 19, 1963, chassis # 1222026 (August 5, 1963, chassis # 1145427 for 1 ton models), VW went to a 14" wheel, size 14x5.00. |

My buswheels painted in pearlwhite. First sandblasted and then in epoxy.
3 x KPZ and 1 crowfeet 1/1956.
Looks like new now. |

Hit those lug faces with a wire wheel so they don't loosen up on you. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Not sure if you know this but Crowfeet bus wheels have a longer open slot. Go with one more KPZ to match the others. I can easily tell with the caps on what wheel is crowfeet in your pic. |

The search for a crowfeet or KPZ is still going on. But not that easy to find overhere. |

Remove paint from the ball-seat where the lug bolt sits... so there is metal to metal contact... not metal to paint.
Paint is generally thinner than powdercoating... and may not be a problem for your epoxy paint.
See this for example, with powdercoating:

Could i leave the epoxy on the lug holes? Otherwise i think it starts to rust. |

It's subjective. Only you know how thick it is.
If it's only your own safety at risk... you can do whatever you like.
If you risk the safety of others... you should at least consider the potential impact before proceeding.
If your wheel bolts come loose... you may jam a wheel up into the body or wreck with a loved one in the bus... or wreck into someone else.
Then how much will you enjoy your decision to leave the epoxy?
Then again, it might be thin coat & you don't need to worry about it.
Just do whatever you think is best. _________________ aka: Evan

The paint might come off as soon as you tighten the lug bolts, from the twisting motion of installing them.
Make sure you check the lug bolt torques after you drive a little bit.
Or after you drive a little, remove all the lug bolts, make sure there is no loose paint under them, and reinstall and re-torque them. _________________ How to Post Photos
