Head bolt near cylinder number 3 is loose and nut will not tighten. How do I repair or replace?
BTW,
Engine is still in and I've just gone through valve cover and removed rocker arms.
Reliable mechanic heard the engine and said to check head bolts. |

you need to either tear it down and fix the threads in the case or find a cheater stud with the self tapping end on it....then it's generally a 1 time deal and your case may be junk after the "fix"
8 or 10 mm studs? if 8, #3 should have been deep studded to help prevent this.
when I say tear it down, I mean split the case _________________

Sounds like the stud pulled. You might be able to find a self tapping stud that will drive into the case and hold for a while. I had this happen back in 1983 _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
