Hi peeps. My 76 baywindow had a Webber carb installed by the PO.
I noticed that there is an extra spring attached to a zip tie. Obviously this doesn't seem ideal. Just curious why it would be like this and what would be a more permanent fix. Incidentally, The engine had been running great with the setup. Thanks so much for your help.

That is a return spring to make sure that the accelerator comes completely back to idle. |

Clever use of a zip tie. Maybe use this instead. Not sure I'd use the bail to attach it to but those bails are sturdy

My concern is the other end of the spring which is just hooked over part of the linkage. I assume that you throttle cable is disconnected but usually it is attach via the barrel nut near where the spring is attached. Assuming this is so, I would just hook the spring over the barrel nut as the barrel nut doesn't rotate and thus the spring will get very little wear, wear which is spread over a large area.
I have a rather ugly looking but much longer spring than you which was installed by the PO, it goes from the barrel nut all the way back to the rod for the thermostat flaps. It has worked for me for ~300K miles at this point in time. |
