Having had several boats, all batteries were n a plastic box. It protected the floors from acid spills. If it is good enough for a boat, why not for a Thing?

With a sealed battery it is not necessary.

The plastic battery box is the reason that both of my 43 year old Acapulco's have perfect floorboards without even surface rust under the battery.
You do not even need the lid in place .

The purist on the Bay forum had to go outside and throw up when I posted that I had coated the entire battery area of my Bay with glass and resin. Ten years later and several east coast winter I have no regrets in having done so.
