The west has been re-supplied!!!
The shipment of 22 NAHT tops arrived in Kennewick Tuesday last. 22 sets of windows were there a month ahead of them. The first pickup of a top for a DIY is set for the weekend and there are several installer installs scheduled. Kevin (Garberville and mobile installs) will be picking up 8 of the tops for Northern California. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

Mike (purplepeopleeater here) in Kennewick installed my NAHT last year and I couldn't be more pleased: 24/7 standing room plus notable storage inside the van. Highly recommended.
Last weekend in eastern WA...
Forward bulkhead...
Rear storage area (I've since added a fence to contain the contents)...

Latest NAHT picked up for an install from Mike in Kennewick Wa. Strapping the top on a van and then driving carefully seems to be the way of choice for people picking up tops for DIY

Eight tops and window sets picked up from Mike in Kennewick by Kevin and on their way to California. Kevin will be based in the Sacramento area now.
Kevin is pulling the tops with Falkor, a hightop conversion by Joel Lane of Colorado Springs. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

Notwithstanding the comments about plastidip, I think this van looks great

These are basically a new and improved version of the Get-Away tops. He just had a fresh mold made and the new tops will be a little thicker than the originals. It sounds like there will be very little, if any, trimming needed. It may need some sanding to fit but not much more than that.
I look forward to getting mine soon _________________ 1987 Syncro

Nice conversion by Riley in Calgary. The van is pretty well fully dressed to have a seamless inside/outside experience with comfort and convenience.
I like the way his exoskeletal racking transfers all weight down to the gutters and obviously provides flexibility in terms of providing for the attachment of virtually anything, anywhere. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

Super-cool! I'd love to know the details behind the rear bulkhead. Are those simple doors and what does it look like inside? The storage under the windows is also a great use of space.
I'm noodling different ideas with shelves, doors and possibly long drawer or two. I like the use of the non-vertical space on the sides (perfect for tent/tarp poles, etc.). _________________ - Jim

It sure is looking good! I just finished a 5K mile trip and everything worked great. Always-on standing room can't be beat. Next up is improved storage for the rear bulkhead and some sort spice rack enhancement/cabinet. _________________ - Jim

Good friend Simon (simonslp on the Samba ) has an original getaway hightop, salvaged from an aircooled vanagon and put onto his 91 syncro westy. I think it's one of the nicer high top shapes.

Those new tops look great. Nice to see some more folks will have the chance to enjoy the getaway top.
I can recommend the Getaway style, I've loved the heck out of mine since I installed it back in 2012 (install thread here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=513449).
The interior is spacious, bigger than the adventurewagen style although not as huge as the Westfalia and NAHT tops. It's possible for a full size person to sleep up there but it's tight and I wouldn't suggest it for more than one or for long term camping. A few pics (nowadays t's better finished out, with led strip lighting etc but not as new new new .
The price is great too, I paid 1000 for mine in rough-but-solid used shape, had to do a lot of work to get it up to snuff.
One thing to note, finding and installing windows and skylight/fan will be a little complex and will require some significant dough and head scratching. _________________ 91 syncro westy w/ 08 suby ej25
