Salvaged some mirrors from an old step van. Cut them to the proper length, then welded them back together. Made some custom mounting brackets and bolted them on the van. Now I finally have mirrors that don't blow over in the wind, plus i feel a little better with convex mirrors for blind spot awareness. Here's a pic of my old man just after I finished the install.

Nice work man! I'd love to see some more pics of those if you have them. _________________ 86 Vanagon Westfalia 87k

I decided to find a tough coating product for one of the high impact areas of the nose on my van. This was recommended by a local auto paint expert. It comes in black, white and clear. Went on easily and I ended up liking the appearance. I'll have to wait to see how it weathers.

Fixed my front G57 calipers after the piston popped out on my Tristar. Oh a horrible feeling when you step on the brake pedal and it goes to the floor.

Changed out my lights for custom made headlights from a local samba member. Really like the output. New set up has HIDs for high and low (outside squares) and the inside square is a "spot light" for primary use off main roads.
Ignore all my clear coat eroded paint spots....
Low/High Beam: H1 HID bulb, 6000 kelvin
Spotlight: H3 HID bulb, 4300 K

Newly installed Porsche 944 light switch for spotlights, fused and relayed.

A couple mods I made to these T3 air scoops. The standard install was ok at lower speeds, but failed at higher speeds. Above 80mph they flex and vibrate to the point the glue fails. I also had screws work lose and even the prongs at the top of the vents broke off. I added a center support, glued top (with a flange) and bottom. I also drilled an access hole to easily reach and firmly tighten the back screws. A hardware store plug cleaned things up. Now everything is stable to silly speeds.

Killed an hour and thirty eight minutes by doing R&R to the six slider door wheel/bearings. Used a kit from VC. Cleaned and lightly regreased the tracks.
Much much more betterer. _________________ Peace, Regis |

Decided it was time to pull the fridge, maybe see if I could clean out the firebox, etc. And since I was that far in, I knew I was in for a peek at the much anticipated rust. I wasn't quite prepared, even with all the threads Iv'e poured over on the usual nightmare.
So, sure enough, its pretty bad. I had previously been thinking I had most of the places stuffed full of stainless steel scrubbies to keep the vermin out... Well, lets just say I needed to make an emergency run to the store. I will pull the entire kitchen and cabinets sometime soon, but at least for now, I needed to feel like I'd not get 5 mice and 2 snakes while camping this WE.

Today, I removed the two side rear windows, and installed a tinted glass with vent on the passenger side, and an Alu piece with vent on the drivers side (behind the cabinets).
(I didn't snap a pic from the other side, but it looks the same, just black...) _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Passed smog yesterday, without going to a *special* smog station. Whew.
Replaced a burnt-out tail light, type 67. Oddly this was at the inboard socket, which on closer examination is marked 32 W. I previously thought the inboard sockets were Euro only, for inclement weather, and disabled on USA Vans. The outboard socket is marked 8 W.
(Housing is stamped USA.)
Live and learn.
At any rate, I could not find a high watt #67 at FLAPS. So, whatever...
Interestingly, all bulbs were marked Hella Germany and wattage matched stamps on the housing (except the inboard taillights) and wattage corresponded to USA hi watt incandescents. This includes front TS bulbs.
I suspect the bulbs are all factory original.
Also tried some inexpensive ($5.00 ea) brake and reverse LEDs. There was no significant improvement over the incandescent bulbs. Possibly dedicated LEDs might work better, but at $15.00 ea I'm not convinced they would be cost efficient. And now I have plenty of spares... _________________ =BCE56=
