I just thought with the money backing that car and the shop doing the work that it would have turned out better. If someone buys that car for $125k that is a joke, I don't care how many NOS parts are in it. If the car was 100% correct $125k would still be high. The 1950 split vert that was on the samba last year for $75k was way nicer.

What's the deal with the 54 and later oval interior, I guess it goes with the back window? I haven't ever seen any splits with leatherette interior, and even if they did offer that seems like they would at least have the early seat stitching pattern.

That was flawless LEATHER, not leatherette. Wink

Those seats could be solid gold but if the stitch pattern is wrong I am not to impressed. I had real leather in my 59 ghia vert, but I copied the original pattern. Leather is really not that special, I prefer original materials. I think that split is the worst high dollar split vert resto I have seen yet. Now when I say worst I mean it is still a very nice car but just not as nice as any of the other full restos I have seen.

well here you go heres the window that you are trippin on
its a repo of course but atleast its available

Not trippin. Just wouldn't catch me restoring a car like that missing one of the best parts about a split vert.

More significant to note, with this window now being faithfully reproduced (which is a major achievement by itself), it also now means that the split kabrio can now, and suredly will be fully re-produced in the near future. Will be certainly interesting to see the debut of a "new/old" kab.

Dave

It breaks my heart to tell you that Jessie had a stroke. We took him to the hospital in Febuary. He is now in a nursing home because he can not walk yet.

Please send out some good vibes because he needs them very much.

It has been for sale for quite some time. I don't know if it's something wrong with it because no one is buying. I saw it back in the day at the Classic and it looked very nice. Does anyone knows more about the car how it is now??

1. Oval front fenders.
2. Oval rear window.
3. Cast bumper guards.
4. and...

Don't think those minor deviations would kill the deal for me, but the prices of these have inflated to a point where it may be difficult to find buyers who would prefer 25 horses to a frame off restored first year Buick Skylark:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Buick-Skylark-/222302...mp;vxp=mtr

There are thousands of other interesting 50s sports cars to compete with this lovely car, Jaguar XK120s 190SLs...

As much as I love beetles, the price hike on the 50s VWs cannot be sustained in the long run, as soon as people understand the work and cost required to keep these cars in top condition. $120 k is beyond what your average Joe may sneak away from the household budget, the finance guys that shells out this kind of money is bound to go bored, I think.

That is my humble opinion, the car is overpriced, and shame about that rear window.

For 125g I'd expect a better resto to be honest. There looks like some real suspect untidy welding going on under the rear parcel shelf areas etc plus the wrong details. Whoever thought that the floor pan spine etc was good enough wasted his time. It's a lot of money , if it was cheaper then fair enough but 125 is top top dollar.

What's the catch???
How about 125k!
It is a nice non-stock color split vert. Without the window...

You notice there are no pictures of the rear view mirror...
And the non-stock interior...
It is overpriced.
