Hello
Does anyone know of a magnetic drain plug that will fit the stock engine oil drain plug hole?
Thanks

Any one you find will work.

The wbx drain plug fits in a tight recess. Not just any plug will work.

You could JB Weld a rare earth magnet to the drain bolt. If you want to be safe maybe attach the magnet to the outside.

I have done that on several (3) cars - the magnets are still on the plugs but of course the plugs are steel so it doesn't really want to go anywhere.

I cannot speak to the clearance for such an arrangement on the WBX.

The cars I use these on have steel sumps (oil pans) so the magnet wouldn't get into any mischief even if it did come undone.

I don't get swarf per se on the plug, more a glob of oily sludge that is just oil and very fine ferrous particles.

I'm wondering if they are being intercepted before getting to the filter?

or are these fine particles so small they are going past the filter (which seems unlikely)?

I bought one manufactured for the Vanagon, I can't remember the company name. It works fine. I get a fine metallic sludge adhering to it when I do the drain, which makes a dark smear on the tissue when I wipe it off.

Better on the plug and tissue than in the oil, is my thinking. It wasn't very expensive.

Best!

A dark grey metallic sludge.

Not much at all.
