I'd have no problem selling the Oval to make room in the garage and finance the Ghia work.
Lots of work, time and $ but when you're finished you'll have a freshly restored matching numbers lowlight!
Here's the gas tank from 56island's gallery - it's got the right sender.

I bet if I asked the guys in the oval forum they would say the opposite! Lol
The beetle is a date correct / 2 owner car. So you can see my dilemma. _________________ Rock, stock and 2 smoking tail pipes. |

your car is about where mine is as far as rust goes, yours is in much better shape under the rear seat, where mine suffered a lot of rust. i think your patina is really nice too, maybe try washing it, and wiping it down with boiled linseed oil. i was thinking i would restore mine, but decided i wouldn't be able to afford a full restoration so i replaced all the rubber, brake lines, rebuilt the motor, etc...and got it running and driving really nice. i love it. once you start driving it around you realize how unique a low light is, the all metal dash, like an oval, but wider, lower to the ground...maybe you could do that work on the ghia outside, get it running, and have both.

My only real concern about the rust is in the heater channel and heat riser tube area. I don't want to hit a bump and taco the ghia! Lol _________________ Rock, stock and 2 smoking tail pipes. |
