|
|
From the department of non-scientific solutions...
The recommended muffler on a Bostig sits surprisingly close to the A/C compressor. It seems that some sort of heat shield would keep the compressor cooler and possibly avoid damage to the wiring and hoses. Other folks have installed an offset muffler to increase the distance between the muffler and the compressor and a variety of heat shields.
It seems like a heat shield will help but I haven't measured before and after temps and who knows how the turbulence removes heat from the area at different speeds or when parked after a long hot run.
I also can't point to any problems I've had due to heat (an A/C compressor failed after a month and about 1,000 miles but the replacement has been fine for over a year and 10,000 miles).
So, based on that I made a model out of cardboard and bent up a bit of aluminum to make a heat shield.
Here are some photos, I'll be interested in hearing if anyone knows of damage caused by heat from the Bostig exhaust. I have searched for Bostig heat shield and found a number of other solutions, MsTaboo and Lemoncove had some good ones.
Working in Dad's shop...
A moderately informative photo of the heat shield...

Thanks, Jeff. Here are a few more shots to add perspective. The shield extends about an inch or two on end of the muffler.
MsTaboo's nsulative blanket is another approach.
