NOTE: Plenty of queries ahead...
As some of you know, my bus is over 1,000 miles away from me and this part of the world isn't laden with barneys, so bear with me if I'm asking what may be seemingly ignorant Qs, please.
1. My bus came from the factory without rear seats. We've now installed a floor with seat brackets, but are unsure of where to place the brackets and which direction they, and the plate, should face. Yep, I know that the plate is not in the right vicinity in the photos.
2. Where should the holes for the rear seats be, what size should they be and is there any reinforcing that we need to weld in? I am intending on modifying a Fleetline bench and rear seat.
3. Should the handbrake mech' and arm be straight or leaning towards the driver? Looking from the underside, the entire mech' looks to be bent to me, but perhaps I'm in the wrong...
4. Whereabouts can I find a decent RHD accelerator pedal, please?
Any info' on any of these queries would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Seat brackets: flat side of the bracket's hole is always closest to the centre of the bus. Curved edge of hole is always closest to the outside of the bus.
There's no other strengthening involved (someone else can confirm).
The rear seat has no floor plates. The middle seat has those five floor plates.
The rear seat brackets straddle the 10th Dip in from the side.
Best to get your seats modified & test-fitted/positioned first...
It looks like your floor, where the rear seat mounts, has raised areas when they should be recessed...the brackets should sit pretty much flush with the Ribs...check the reference pictures.
You need to get that bus closer to home! _________________ -StockRocks- |

The section under the rear seat in those references photos (which are an excellent aid!), is very peculiar. My bus has definitely had any metal replaced before now. I'd love to hear from more barney owners, to see if anyone else has raised ribs there.
I know that my Kombi was ordered without rear seats. We're retrofitting a passenger floor. I can't imagine that they'd use an upturned panel there if no seats were ordered.
Do you perhaps have photos of where and how the backrest mounts, please? ...unless I'm blind and have missed that in the photoset?
Sadly, my bus won't be moving any closer for a long time yet. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

The rear seat mounts on the 55 look the same as mine, and yours appears to have recesses for the lug brackets too, unless it's an illusion.
I cannot see any other backrest brackets either, my seats are not here to look at, approx 10 miles away.. nothing to your 1000 but my van is 30 feet from the house and I still need to get on with it more.
OK it looks like the sailing is cancelled so I am venturing the 30 feet.. _________________ Buying Barndoor parts & panels, RHD 54 Kombi in resto. |

Many thanks, newa.
My new floor does have the recesses.
Sailing's likely to be canned this side too. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

One captive nut on the inside of each rear wheel-well. Seat held with 2 x wingnut bolts.

Excellent! Thank you.
I don't suppose that you have of the upper brackets/mounts, please? _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Nope. I can only assume that there 'hook'-type brackets further up the firewall, which the top of the backrest hangs off of. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

^These are the only two mounting points.
The seat just leans back at the top. No upper fixing areas. _________________ -StockRocks- |

Wow. That's so rudimentary.
Many thanks, RockStock. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.
