Looking at the rear apron valance another notable detail we discovered is the wiring loom tab on the 47 was on the apron itself and not on the valance as on the later splits and ovals. (Up to late 59 I suppose)

Dude, Mika, Thanks man. That is more Kool details we can add to make them that much more authentic. I will start digging into getting some dimensions. (Would you happen to have the size and distance from the closest hole?)
I also had a detail question for you about the engine side trays I picked up. I sent it to your PM box. Smile

Hope all is well my friend. Im absolutely grateful for these details. Do you mind sharing the name of the resource you got the illustration from.

Cool

Please help.... Laughing

This is a photo on my 57 oval of the engine bay side tray from the bottom. Notice the small flange spot welded to the rear firewall.

* My question is was there a time when they did Not use this flange. If so when was it introduced. Thanks in advance.

(Can any split owners confirm or deny that is was present?)

Question I have a speculation , if it was not present on the split , it may have been introduced when the tar board insulation was introduced? Question

Jason-

If you show me a larger area of what you are looking for, I will check my 51 standard that you looked at recently. I *think* i know the area you are talking about, but want to make sure.

Thanks for the support and the engaging question.

The name change has been on my heart for quite sometime now. The impact started about three years ago when my grandfathers trust fund was time released to his grandchildren. I received approx 10k each year for the last three years. I put almost every dime back into the shop and equipment. I began to have a huge sense of pride in how my grandfather was providing and pushing forward his family name long after he was gone. My grandfather comes from a time where your name was the most important thing you have, a time when folks looked to and counted on a trusted name (not a logo or catchy phrase ) for a positive experience and service.

looking back in history at every person or company with a Legacy behind the name. They where know for just that, Their Name. Then what they do.

I want to establish a Legacy for my sons and myself based on who we are and not just what we do.

I took a calculated risk changing the name but im confident in where it is taking us.

*Your name is the one thing in this life that can NOT be taken away from YOU, establish and protect it with all that you are*

Here are some photos of the drivers side of my unrestored 1951 standard

Is this specifically what you are looking for? I don't see a return flange that is spot welded, but perhaps I am not looking at the right thing?

Hope it helps!

That's is helpful , thanks mike. , from the small amout of feedback I have received, the flange was not present on the split Beetles. Now I'm only trying to narrow it down to when for future builds and thread reference. Looking at your photo from the top you can see why VW added the flange later , you can see a gap being created as the firewall gets pushed back more and more over time after multiple motor removals and replacement or blown out tire , poor service ,whatever... I feel comfortable guessing it was introduced in 54 maybe late 53

Happy to help Jason...yeah it also separates with rear impact damage (like my car has) Wink

I think that there may be some correlation with the intro of the tarboard engine compartment liner. I can check my July 54 car as well if you want.

Good work and keep the pictures coming!

Jason-

Here is a shot from my July 1954 survivor. Apologize about the undercoating/dirt, but this car is 100% original and has not been hit.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

There is a small return flange and it is spot welded in the center (i tried to separate the panels with a slight amount of force and the weld prevents separation).

I will also double check the split, as I am much clearer on the area in question. Wink

Jason, if you look at this photo you can see that his car does have the flange and that it appears to have broken free right at the spot weld. see that little half moon shape and the little blob of spot weld that it used to be attached with?

I just checked my original 51 and it DOES have the return flange spot welded. I know its not a '47, but its reference.
