Hello, my friends !!
We still LOVE the VW´s here at South America, and in my business trips across the south of Brazil I managed to find a true rarity in our country: a water-cooled all-original 1981 VW Passat LS from the very-first owner, it has seventy thousand kilometers (about fifty thousand miles) on the 1.500 cc. engine. I really love these Passats because my dad bought one brand-new back in ´81, and it was an early-production alcohol fueled model - very problematic on cold weather. I still have the typical smell of these cars recorded in my brain, so I was very happy to get this baby home to be pampered.
Here are some pics, hope you guys like them !!!
Here´s the Passat coming home:
Just had a good wash & wax and ready for the first classic car meet where our car won "Best of water-cooled 80´s" !
This is a photo-shoot I made in my town, a beautiful ten-thousand habitant german-styled village called Ivoti, at Rio Grande do Sul:
The engine is an all-original Solex-carbureted 1500 cc water-cooled really smooth & economic powerplant
The trunk is allright for a small-family:
Inside is so great to see the original seat-covers, the immaculate dashboard and the typical "smell" that comes from this car:
We also have a 1987 VW Passat Special, a very rare survivor & more spartan version of the lineup, 1.6-liter alcohol-fueled 4-speed car, great & reliable daily-driver that has about one hundred fifty thousand miles on the clock, very dependable VW - LOVE THEM ALL !!
Hugs from Brazil !!!! |

Great find, thanks for sharing! I always wanted one of these in the wagon/estate form as a VW or the Audi Fox version. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

We love the wagons too, but unfortunately they were not produced in Brazil - instead we had a two-door aircooled version called "Variant II" and later a smaller wagon based on the Golf-base called "Parati", back in 1982
We had a small-production customized VW Passat Wagon, made by a dealer but it was really expensive, here´s a click on that beauty:
This is the VW Parati, a huge success from VW of Brazil back in the 80´s, they used the same VW Passat powerplant and started production in 1982:

Your parati came to the US as the Fox wagon with a fuel injected 1.8 in late 80s early 90s. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
