So a local VW guy says the dual solex setup from cb performance is pretty good and less than $400. This seems like an ideal way to replace my progressive setup in my 74 but everyone here seems to lean toward FI.
As it so happens, i have a 77 which I may need to turn into a parts bus for political reasons. It's a long story but potentially i have a used FI system complete with fuel tank but some questionable history available. Worth the hassle of swapping to a non FI '74 and troubleshooting?
I'm also on the verge of acquiring a derelict 73 with a stock dual setup that has been sitting for many years. They will most likely need a complete rebuild/re bush but perhaps an option? Better than new solexes?
Open to advice.
Thanks.

I like both stock carbs and FI, but the FI wins if I had to choose just one. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That is helpful to know FI works noticeably better than carbs. My question is more along the lines of what's the best option for my progressive carbed '74 weighing cost and convenience.
1) Convert it to a used FI that is not know to be 100%?
2) Rebuild or most likely have rebuilt/rebushed a stock '73 dual set up?
3) Buy a brand new Solex dual arrangement from CB performance for $400? |

My preferences would be in that order: 1) 2) 3) _________________ John

1. Convert to a not known )condition wise) used FI system? Good luck.
