Priced a vehicle to sell and, as much as I want it to go, guy calls, asks a few general questions, knocks me down $100 and paypals me the money WITHOUT seeing the non-running vehicle.
Am I walking in to something? |

Pull those funds out of your PayPal account, cash it, transfer to a bank, etc.
Could it be some type of scam? Maybe. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Probably depends on what you're selling. You selling a 52 split for $1000? Understand that PayPal is very buyer friendly. Their policy is like 6 months to file a complaint nowadays. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I've been selling using paypal for 10 years. I have it tied to a sacrifice acct. and won't do any business over $500, no debit card, pull the money out when it hits $300. I've survived many scam / false claim attempts. I would never/ever do an entire car sale this way. I would refund the amount and insist on a bank check or postal money orders. Real buyers will agree to these universally accepted forms of payment. Oh and sales over $10K must be person/cash to avoid automatic notification from banks. Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin would also be good, except it is very volatile and you might get (up or down) with a wild swing. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

What you described sounds very strange to me.
Agree with Manfred58sc
I won't sell a car or anything that is priced high via a Paypal payment.
I haven't sold a car in a while but I do cash in person or wire transfer. |
By the same token I wouldn't do a long distance buy via wire transfer unless I had a third party I trusted or dealing with someone I've bought from in the past. I'm about 100% sure I would still be dicking around with the seller of my car to get a proper title had I not been able to file a PP complaint and get the funds held from being dispersed. Too many shady asshats out there. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Doesn't Paypal require is credit card also? that way they can charge your card if there's no funds in the account.
I gave them a card that longer exists. And the bank account linked, never has any money in it. It's just for Paypal. _________________ Glenn

Never use Paypal as a Buyer to purchase.
Deposits can be reversed - just like a credit card chargeback.
Never use PayPal as a Seller if a prospective buyer want to pay you as a " gift ".
I was set to pick up a car recently in Colorado - the Seller requested a Paypal gift payment for a deposit - then sold the car locally - the prospective had no recourse thu Paypal. _________________ Jim is on the road @ http://www.trulyvintagetrailers.citymax.com/trulyvintage-feedback.html |

While I agree regarding not gifting payment, I don't see how a normal transaction or payment through PayPal doesn't benefit the buyer? You have a stupid amount of protection. If the seller wants to refund or chargeback your deposit; so be it. Better than losing your cash. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Cash in person or a check/cashiers drafted from a bank. Verify check by calling bank. Look up the phone number on the internet and not the check. |
