Anyone have issues with their tk 103? The first one i bought never worked right ot of the box. Sent it back and the next one worked but has now stopped responding and not working after only 4 months. I tried resetting it but its not responding. The light stays solid red like its not getting gsm signal. My sim card is up date and everything seems tight. Of course their is 0.0 customer service on this device, atleast i cant find any. Anyone out there offer some suggestions? I still have $50 left on my wireless plan so id like to get it sorted out
Thanks

Who is your sim card with? If it is with AT&T or one of its MVNOs, it's likely not working because AT&T shut down its 2G network in January, and that tracker only works on 2G. T-Mobile is keeping its 2G network up for a few more years. If you've got it on the T-Mobile network, it may be a different issue.

Thank you for the reply. My sim card and provider is with h20wireless. I know nothing about them other than i pay $8 a month |

I believe they use the ATT network, if so then the unit will likely no longer work as ATT dropped 2G as of 1/1/2017. |
Crap, my plan is thru next year with them :/
Verizon is the biggest provider in my area, i wonder if they still use 2g. If not any suggestiins on a provider? |

Just checked my Ting (T-Mobile GSM) equipped TK103. Still working. I'm verifying and posting so that folks who want to keep their TK103 and find a Ting or T-Mobile SIM card can do so with confidence.
I will be investigating alternatives over the next year.

T-Mobile plans to keep their 2G network up until 2020, so any T-Mobile or T-Mobile MVNO sim will be fine to use for a few more years. But they don't have nearly as wide a coverage area as AT&T, so it will work but in many areas but you'd have to hope it's not stolen or taken to a non-T-Mobile area.

Verizon is now offering a device/service called Hum. It is $10 per month. It will track your vehicle location, along with a host of other features. However, it plugs into an OBD2 port of the vehicle and is probably pretty easy for someone to unplug if they steal your vehicle.

And I could not use my scan gauge with this plugged into the OBD2 port..... |

I just ordered the Trackimo 3G GPS tracker. I also purchased the Waterproof box + magnet for GPS Tracker + 3000mAh battery.
The description mentions the following, "If tracking once an hour or once a day is frequent enough, Trackimo has a special new software that can make the 3,000mAH battery lasts up to 3-12 months"
That works for me so we'll see how it goes. Link below if anyone is interested.

After looking around some more I finally bought this GPS tracker. Since I am on AT&T which no longer offers 2G I had to find a new unit that was 3G.
3G-WCDMA-GPS-Vehicle-Tracker-CCTR-805
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3G-WCDMA-GPS-Vehicle-Track...2047488292
I really like these type of units since I do not have to rely on a third party website to track the vehicle (although this one does offer that). I call the unit and it texts me back the location via a google maps link.
It is very similar to my older TK103 but this also uses 3G (and 2G too). Verified today that it works on AT&T via my GoPhone SIM. It does take a micro-SIM so I had to trade in my older standard size SIM that was in my TK103, no extra charge.
I now have three old TK103 units that are bricks to me so if you have a plan that uses 2G I'd be glad to send you one for the cost of shipping. _________________ Dave O

Last week I was in AZ just after the San Diego van was stolen and lost in Mexico and while Levi's van was still missing. I own the TK103 but needed a something else. Being near Mexico I wanted a quick solution so I ordered a SPOT from Amazon with same day deleivery (I heart Amazon). The SPOT is an amazingly simple solution and it was up an running in less than 15 minutes.
I like that the SPOT can be battery operated or hard wired, it's multi-purpose (we can also use it as a personal beacon for backcountry hikes and bike rides) and I can easily share monitoring with friends. The biggest plus is that it's not cell based. I have ATT on my phone and the coverage is not awesome in the west.
With rebate, the SPOT is $50, service is $12.50/month and super-easy to set-up. Recommended. At $50, one might buy a second or third unit and use them as dummies. Multiple deterrent and recovery tactics should be deployed. _________________ - Jim

Any links to that specific one? |

while my tk103 is still working, a check of its location gives gps coordinates for a spot a couple miles away instead of my driveway. guess it's time to switch. _________________ '74 transporter panel
