... what a great find... and a rare car... As part of the former Soviet Union, someone or someones kept that car alive, anyway they could... pretty resourceful.
That is a lifetime keeper... keep the tradition going, by keeping it alive. Don't be too concerned with originality... Most parts you need are available in the samba classifieds.
That is the coolest Zwitter, I ever saw.... keep it alive.
I had a 11/1952 Zwitter for 20 years... love yours too...

Well, it is a pre 55 W decklid so I think thats it! I will buy it in any case.
Now I need front hood. I have three of them but all of them are from 60's. Must learn differences. Help would be great!
Thanks! _________________ Proud to be Croat! |

The 1949-1959 VW Beetle Authenticity Series by Bob Wilson is a book you might want to look into getting. |

Zvonimir, the decklid that you are considering to buy does have the correct Oct '52 and onwards license plate light cutout. This change was simultaneous with the introduction of the heart tail-lights, since brake light function was moved from the former "popes nose" to the new heart lenses. The Oct '52 license light was new design, and the decklid opening was changed to match. BTW, someone here on the Samba sells the angled spring bracket if the newer straight one concerns you. Hey...I have purchased that decklid and its great! This is correct one for my car.
Now I need some help to find front one! Can someone point me the differences, please?
I have found one more zwitter and it is a complete one but it is too expensive to me at the moment. Hope it will stay there for at least a year. _________________ Proud to be Croat! |

One question again!
What should original front headlight lens should be? I have one Bosch on my car and I have bought three Hella lenses in recent time.

Originally, a zwitter headlight lens (glass) would have been of "symmetrical" design.
But of course the lenses that you've pictured will fit your car, as they fit vw bugs through to the updated model with upright head lights. _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

So the Bosch one which is on the car isn't original too? _________________ Proud to be Croat! |

To be honest, I would not stress over the headlight lens too much; it's just a functional piece of glass And they wear over time when you drive the car (stone chips, scratches, cracks). So to me personally, it would not be the biggest deal.
Having said that, I highly doubt that the car left the VW factory with that lens, but may be a "headlight lens" expert might chime in? I suspect it's a headlight lens from the late 19fifties through the 19sixties.
The Bosch logo is also not the oldest "script" logo like this one:

Not a zwitter hood. It looks more like a 1956 and after 4 tab hood. _________________ New Vintage Specialist.

It's a late 1958 (1 NOV 58 starting with Chassis# 2149029) thru 1960 hood.
It will fit your 53.
The correct hood for a 53 is a 4 tab, 7 bolt with the 3 piece pressing for the hinge area. _________________ It all works on paper.

Again with the queston. I have found one engine that may be good solution if I want to have a 25 hp. Now, how was engines and cars related through months? Was the production date the same or could the engine be older few months?

Every original car I have seen had an engine from the same month, except in cases where the VIN/Chassis # was close to a month change over.
In that case the engine could be from an earlier month but it would still be very close to the charts on the site.
Example:
If the vehicle chassis # was from early in one month's charts, the engine would be from very late in the previous month. _________________ How to Post Photos
