Doug,

The more I see how the HHR lights look on your buggy and measuring and looking at them on my wifes HHR, I think we might have to get a few for our buggy! Hope you dont mind us doing that!

She measured the lights and we can get 2 on each side, but not 3. Thats a bummer because I really wanted the sequential lights. Oh well...it will still be better than old RV lights!

Thanks again and your build looks great!

RedBaronofRedBud...Imitation is the greatest form of flattery...And flattery will get you a long ways!

Remember to look on car-parts.com for local salvage yards near you that might have them. I found that they sell the lights separate from the cups and harness. I will say I have roughly $130 in everything. Also remember to get the light socket/pigtail. As I was looking on Ebay, there is a company called JunkYardDawgs that had a great price and he's the one that sent the cup and pigtail. Don't forget the special nuts that hold them together. Good luck with it and I hope they work for you.

Thanks for the tip on car-parts.com! They are a great resource for many parts as I found out last year with my C230. I needed a new sunroof assy and found one in St Louis for 400 bucks. Way cheaper than 2K+ at the stealership!

I found a few for 25 bucks apiece. Gonna see if they are complete with pigtails!

Have you tried any U-pull it lots? I found a new one and need to check em out. Love to go and spend an afternoon looking for parts in those...its like a treasure hunt adventure!

RBofRB...I haven't tried the upull yards in a long time. An old yard just changed to one near my office but anytime I checked on parts, they didn't have it. Mostly late model. I used to search for Mustang stuff.

A battery and a few Aligator clip leads would give you a great sense of satisfaction with little or no effort.... Wink

of course doing stuff like that is probably why I'm still working on mine instead of driving it.... Laughing

Well...it's been over 3 years since last worked on Buggy. Wife says it needs to go, I want to finish it. Friend says "I'll help. Might be fun". So we dusted it off and started in. Installed the intake and hung exhaust. Tin is next once I get the parts to install fan and alternator.

Several questions if I may;

Where is the best spot for grounding strap, Found a stud on frame horn. Where would you put the other end?

Also acquired a late model steering column including key. Any thoughts. I also have 2 other early ones.

We keep moving forward. I got the alternator installed in the tin. Realized I couldn't use the new wider fan I bought. Rubs on the tin so I had to use the old, narrow one. The fan hub I got was an Empi one and had to do some filing on it just to get the shims and the fan to fit. Tin is installed.

Got the carb installed and found the accelerator pump linkage was hitting the alternator. Thanks to some forum help, was able to rearrange the linkage and got the carb installed. Installed the electronic ignition module and almost ready to get it running. Hopefully soon.

One bit of advice on the electronic ignition. Leave it disconnected until the last possible moment. Then BEFORE you hook it up check the wires to make sure the + is + and the - is -.

Just connecting them wrong for a fraction of a second will fry the unit.

Don't ask how I know....

Finally got the engine running with a bit of help from the engine guys. Distributor drive was installed 180deg off. Now just need to tune it to keep it running. I will start working on the throttle cable, clutch cable, and ebrake cables so I can get the floor together. After that getting the dash and hood into one piece.

Well, thanks to the guys on the engine forum and a lot of research, I was able to get the engine running. It was the metal gaskets I used when I installed the intake. Then old carb runs fine and the engine runs very strong. I am so thankful for Samba. This place is the best!

Now onto the next step. Getting the body to line up with the frame. Need to order a wiring harness and I'm looking at the one from Dune Buggy Brothers. Fuel cell, windshield, seats, headlights, and paint or wrap. Moving forward.

Thanks everyone for your help to get me this far!
