So I've got an old 53' shell that's going onto a 64' pan (cause that's how it was when I bought it 16 years ago). I've torn it right down and the chassis is almost ready for paint, which means I'm almost ready to rebuild the brakes and suspension. Problem is I'm not sure what to go with here. Stock 64' brakes? should I move to a dual circuit? should I go front disc?
Some context here, I will be running a 1600dp in the car (engine is in hand but not in one piece, winter project). I do eventually want to mildly lower the car, but without knowing how the 53' is going to ride on the 64' pan at stock height I don't want to do that until after it is a drivable car.
any advice / experience or criticism is welcome |

Dual circut for sure. Doesn't really improve stopping. But it can save your life if there is a problem sometime down the road.
Just cruising around town, the drum brakes actually work pretty decent if properly built and maintained.
If you are doing freeway driving, spirited driving, DD in congested cities, front disks are nice.
Personally I just ride on drums as I don't DD it on freeway etc but I'm building a new motor that will have a bit more go, so I'm considering going to disks up front.
I don't think disk rears are necessary unless you are driving rally or something. |

Dual circuit makes sense, any suggestion on who makes good master cylinders and wheel cylinders? I'm in northern bc Canada and Cip1 is easy for me but I worry about the quality.
I live in a small town and there is no freeway here, only highway. So I just don't think the discs are worth the money atm, I'll check the drums and see what kind of condition they are in I guess.
Thanks |
