Hey Burley,
Nice as always to see you at Syncrofest.
Question (& you don't need to say sourcing specifically), but are the shoes, caliper parts, & rotors readily available when it come times to service them?
That was a big concern for me when updating to the front big brake kit.
Thanks,
Bill |
It was nice to see you at SF as well
Replacement parts are easy to get and readily available.
This is one of the reasons we updated from our old kit. |
Awesome! I'll be in touch.

OK so I'll ask. How did you test performance of the parking brake? There's any number of ways to convey the information to potential buyers. Some want to know how many clicks on the brake handle when you pull it. I assume it can be adjusted to "3-clicks". OK I'm sure we have a winner there.
Others want to know if it can skid the rear tires on pavement (strong enough for emergency).
My personal qualification is, can it skid the rear wheels on loose gravel? If yes they they will be stellar as a parking brake. _________________

Wow that's funny , your testing method sounds like something from a mad max movie LOL.
Sorry to disappoint LOL, we did not do any barbaric methods of testing by dragging the test van down a gravel road by a chain.
After performing a proper installation along with proper cable adjustment
We did whoever test over a multi year period of real driving / parking conditions.
Our tests yielded excellent performance results in all areas.
The parking brake cables are independently adjustable on our kit so as to obtain even parking brake application from side to side.
As you ask'd , yes
It is possible to adjust so the handle travels 3 clicks of travel.
As well as 5-7 clicks which I think is VW adj spec.
The less handle clicks doesn't make the brake apply more pressure , its only after it gets to a certain point that the cables are too loose to effectively work. _________________ Protect your investment !

The "3-click" is a joke at some fellers who think numbers of clicks is the most important feature of a parking brake.
But on to actual performance. Can you coast at (a barbaric) 10mph on a gravel road, pull the brake and will these discs skid the rear wheels? _________________

As previously mentioned, static / normal '' parking '' use conditions tests were performed with great results.
Sometimes steep hills and sometimes not , all depending on where we were ''parking''.
The ''parking '' brake is not designed for dynamic loads or intended for that type of use or to stop the van when it is in motion.
Therefore we did not perform such testing.
Thanks for your question. _________________ Protect your investment !

Burley, Will that front big brake kit fit with 15" Rhein rims? Please? |
We have installed them under 15'' Rheins
It will fit but its real tight.
We had to grind off the casting flashing from the caliper housing to gain enough
clearance and balancing weights had to be re positioned. |
Yep. Similar issue on my previous '87. Ordering now.... _________________ Dave O

Because the Van Cafe carrot 15" wheel are not stably available , we haven't tried it to date.
Our kit fits with :
Euro look 15'' and 16''
South African steel 15'' and 16''
Rhein 15''
MBZ CLK 16'' ( i'm not aware of a 15'' in this wheel )
and possibly more wheels as we are still test fitting as we come across other wheels to test fit.
I do know that our kit will fit under any wheel that is known to fit the ancient G60 twin piston Girling calipers. _________________ Protect your investment !

And it is not an illusion it is that rust free... from Michigan
Anyways Thanks Burley for your awesome parts. Well put together.

“Van Cafe 15" Carrot wheel not stably available”?!?!
Peter has these all the time. Just call him.
Should only be a matter of measurement regarding the wheel and rotor/caliper anyway, right?
I have VC 15” Carrot Wheels and am willing to test the new Burly Rear Brake Disc Kit on mine for a discount and post a review here. Let me know. _________________ 1990 Multivan - "Ohana"

Over the years we have seen long dry spells on those wheels , but who really
cares lol
Thank you for clarifying you want a rear disc kit . My Previous fitment notes were pertaining to our front disc brake kit.
Our rear kit fits with pretty much any 15'' wheel , its the fronts that are fitment specific. _________________ Protect your investment !
