Thanks again folks for the thoughts and info. Interesting to hear about the rear box hanger. The previous owner put the new exhaust system on and I've been puzzling me about how the rear box could be supported using that.

I'm busy working on my 1943 VW Kubelwagen until late every night at the moment, getting it ready to take to a show in Germany at the end of the month. http://uraltkaefer.de/e_index.html Once back, I'll get the car on a friends 4 poster ramp, and have a good look underneath, and take more pictures, and look at the issues raised, including the fuses as suggested, and report back.

Last year I replaced the tank on the Jan 83 Cabrio I have, and the one that came out, and which I still have, is a different shape I believe to the one on this car, but as I have neither to hand at the moment, I can't state anything with certainty at present!

Having been to the biggest VW show in the world last weekend, in Germany, I returned home this week to find the 'Birth Certificate' for the car had arrived. A lot quicker than normal, at around 3 weeks. However, the information provided on this conflicts with the information I was previously supplied with by VW last year.

The certificate now says the car was built on 18th Sept 1978. I've just e-mailed them to try and find out what the situation really is, as I've been supplied wrong information on a 'Birth Certificate' previously for another car. At the time they put the mistake down to work pressures! Hard to beleive when they took 6 months to produce.
