$1500 on ebay for a smashed nose, smashed corner, missing rocker, missing battery tray, rusty front floor, completely missing camping interior but running and otherwise solid '67 westy....i'm an easy $2000 in extras into it (excluding shop tools and my time)...nose is fixed, rocker is getting fixed, corner is fixed, battery tray is fixed, interior is now mostly complete...i figure total cost will be about $5k when i'm done and i'll have a decent looking daily driver...

'70 Fastback with no motor and completely rusted through -- $300
'72 Square complete except coil and battery, now driven daily -- $200

-- I have put about $1500 into the square, just in bodywork/paint, new parts, etc... but the car would have run just fine almost from day one.... and no rust, either.....

and I gutted the Fastback and got rid of it....

hahah, drove 50 miles to go look at 64 baja so that I'd have something other than just a 72 914, so that I could work on it. When I got there the 914 crapped out, and the baja that i was looking at wasn't running. I bought it anyway. $450 plus a $35 fuel pump. My dad came up and towed it home for me (came with a tow bar) and I fixed it in about a half hour. One of the guys that I work with drives a subaru and recently told me that I was overcharged for my baja. I asked if he wanted to come take his capable all wheel drive vehicle for a trip on some logging road with me and he still hasn't come, I wonder why??

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Let me start with the most recent Vw's I've had

75 Safari (Tub Bus) - $2500http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=665257&highlight=
73 passenger van - $5Khttp://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=624289&highlight=
59 swivel seat Kombi - 4eva pricelesshttp://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=555478&highlight=
71 tin top camper/sunroof delux - $2.5Khttp://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=354422&highlight=

Baywidow prices seem to still be affordable, while spit bus prices continue to rise.

I daily drove that car for a year. Then in March of 2016 I paid $6,000 for my '66. I've been daily driving the '66 ever since.

My cousin, who got me hooked in the first place, is still looking for that kind of deal.

At the time, I wanted a Notch, but couldn't afford one. I thought this would suffice. It didn't. Confused

These are the most expensive ACVWs I've owned, which must explain why I still have them. Smile

How about just the ones I have on hand?

'70 type 4 square back $250 - sold for the same - bought it back without reverse $100

'69 7 passenger bay window $1200 from Dad back in '84 - ran it for several years - needs a resto

last fall, Manx copy on '71 pan $6000 - clean but turns out to have a tired engine! $2000 and climbing on engine parts!

Aw well, gotta use up our hard earned cash on something!

Early 80s still good deals. I bought a kinda rough 66 without engine for 35 bucks, it also needed the brake line replaced running alongside tunnel so I just cut it and pinched it shut with vise grip pliers. Installed a worn out 36 hp engine and sold the whole mess running for 175 bucks two days later.

0=0 dollars for my stock 1967 bug and 1963 ragtop bug. A neighbor gave them to me. I had to clean out the backyard they were in to get them out. Yard was full of metal and rebar and such. Had scrap guys remove it all for free. Have put money into these cars but free to start.
