I would tell them a vintage car project with Dad. Some older folks might be scared off by some old hippie stigma from way back when. _________________ Keep on Busin'

just saving up for your 1st car should be enough to pass along the notion of work for rewards and non-social class entitlements. which is the truth in your case..
but don't stiff anyone or get wishy-washy on anyone.. because bad words travel twice as fast as praise. and you'll loose other (potential) clients _________________

Good thinking, I made a lawn mowing flyer that had a bit about the VW bus on it, but I haven't put any up yet. I've never done dog walking, I could try, but I wouldn't trust my self with another persons dogs... I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the sharpest
I'll let the people know why I'm saving up. I'll probably say something along the lines of wanting a old VW to work on with my dad because he had one. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Well, my step mom has decided she wants to get a bus for my dad and not wait too long so we are now looking at $4000 busses. We're going to look at a '74 this weekend and are hoping to get it for him. It runs and has minimal rust. Just needs a new canvas to be a driver. My hunt for a bus for myself isn't going well, I have no way of making money, I'm gonna start asking the people that mow their own lawns (everyone) if they know anyone that needs it done. I really want a late bay, but a '71 in PA for only $3000 looks really nice. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

When you hit $5000 we will know you are serious
Happy hunting!
I'm in a decently wealthy suburb in upstate NY and 80% of my neighbors are paying 150-200 per month for lawn cutting. There is a lot of fat in that margin for a guy who needs cash only. Capitalism rocks, sometimes _________________ .ssS! |

Get your '67 bug running and mostly sorted and sell it. That is an high demand year for beetles. That plus whatever you've saved could probably get you a decent bus. Focus on one thing at a time. The ability to delay gratification is one of the best lessons you can learn in life. Having an object now can't determine your happiness. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust."

You want to sell it and get a 72 bug? How are you planning on buying a bus and a bug at the same time when you don't have money for one of them? Decide what you really want, get a plan and stick to it.
I'd be inclined in the meantime to get that bug put back together decently and running and sell it. Basket case bugs don't usually bring much money. You don't have to fix all the rust, just make it safe and be upfront about the rust when you sell it.
Or..
Take the time to fix the bug to the best of your ability and just drive that. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

No I've decide against that bug, I really want a bug and a bus, but I have to decide. Busses are really rising in value so I think if I make the bug nice then sell it and get a bus I'll be good. I can always get another project bug. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

That's good, another basket case would've just been more headache.
I guess another option would be to just put the '67 bug in a shed until you have the money/tools/skills to fix it some day and keep saving for a bus without much rust.
If you think the rust repair on the '67 is just way too much to deal with then you could just sell it as is for what you can get for it and not have to put any more energy into it. I don't know how much its going to cost you to get it running but it looks like you a have a lot of the parts already. When they are mostly put together and at least rolling around they sell for more. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Yeah.
You just need to relax, and trust that you will find the perfect bus for your pricerange/skill level with enough patience and perseverance.
You have your entire life to live, from a 19 year old, trust me. THERE. IS. NO. RUSH.
If you jump the gun, and buy some piece of shit basket case rustbucket, you are going to see the VW of your dreams come up for sale a week later, and guess what, you don't have the money now. If you had continued waiting and looking, you could've snagged it... But you're stuck with a basket case because you couldn't just relax and wait for the right Bus to come along.
I don't understand why I'm telling you this for a second (third?) time... _________________ -Ian

No, if I sell the bug I could definitely get enough for a nice bus, its a black '67. We'll see, I'm going to look at this this weekend.
