Hello guys,
I haven't been active here for a while in the forum, but i was active working on the bus. I started the right side ... it was very bad, again sandwich of rust and several layers of sheet metal.
So I cut a lot of this and then started to put some fresh metal instead:
So things are moving but slow ... I'm over restoring the breaks as well but more details later on.
Cheers! _________________ My 77 Single Cab |

Hello guys,
Thank you for the good words, I have new portions of pictures and a lot actually has been done.
First of all the brakes has been restore. The front calipers are restored. and painted. New break pads installed.
New master cylinder has been installed, together with two of the break lines.
It is not the original, this is taken from Russian Lada, price was just 15 EUR.
Then next the engine compartment has been painted in orange RAL 2004
I bought some seam sealer and covered all the welds with it.
Then I installed new gear coupling set.
The gearbox has been installed next, together with the drive shafts with the replaced boots and grease.
As next step I decided to put some epoxy primer as some of the new parts got some surface rust.
This is all so far, next to come is to install the engine and probably to do some test drive I'm looking forward to that.
Cheers! _________________ My 77 Single Cab |

Hello guys,
I've done some more paining (epoxy primer) on the bus:
Also I managed to put the engine in the engine bay:
Then all the electric connections has been checked and restored.
At the moment I have problems with the charging of the battery is it not charging at all. The generator is working, when I measure the voltage of its end, but this doesn't reach the battery. Do you have any idea what it could be causing that? _________________ My 77 Single Cab |

Once you rip things open to reveal the rusty metal inside, are you treating and painting that interior metal with rust-preventive? If not, it will rot from the inside out. _________________ John

Well I'm trying to rust prevent as much as I reveal and I can reach to treat, but the thing that worries me is that I can not reach everything.
I guess you can do that only in some bath with rust preventive solution, and then to paint it the same way so it will cover everything.
Hopefully it will stay for another 40 years after I finish it _________________ My 77 Single Cab |

So, how is this coming, tolkata? Is it put up for the winter again?
It is great to watch the resurrection. _________________ John

Hey guys ,
Sorry for the late answer. Yes the bus is put on sleep for the winter.
I also like to see how it is coming back step by step. It took a bit longer time that I expected but it will come. As I wrote before I work on it only summer time on the weekends as I do not have big enough garage to work when weather is bad.
Happy new year Holidays to all of you! _________________ My 77 Single Cab |

Awesome thread, enjoyed reading about the single cab and what you've been doing.
Good luck with further progress:) _________________ Major; 1977 Westfalia Campmobile

Hey I'm back
I haven't posted anything here for quite a long time, but there was not much done. I was working on other project beside my T2, I become a beekeeper and I would say it is quite interesting how the bees are working together
Enough about beekeeping , now back to the old VW T2 waiting for me to finish it.
My passenger seat was missing, unfortunately I was not able to find one from T2, but I found one from T25 in very good condition:
The beginning of the summer was very rainy and I was forced to work in the garage, where the space is more than limited. I got a slide hummer and and did some face lifting Still not perfect , but much better than what it was before. The rest will be done with bondo.
The big day , 2 weeks ago I bought a battery and I was decided that this is the day for test drive. After probably about 20 years out of the road the bus we did few hundred meters Sorry I was that excited that the only picture was just before we went out:
I have to fine tune the carburetor, and I believe the breaks need some more kilometers in order to become more effective, but still it was good run.
I started to put some bondo and have few panels done:
Next week I should I plan to continue with the body filler and maybe some primer later on.

Yeah, currently looks more like "the beast", hopefully it will be more like "the beauty" after all the bodywork is done. Looking forward to that _________________ My 77 Single Cab |
