Here's a simple solution based on a "Let'sGoAERO" TwinTube hitch rack. I used a 48 gallon Rubbermaid ActionPacker and bolted it to the hitch rack using some stock metal strips to reinforce the connection. I positioned it so the hatch clears when I pull out the tubes.
Adjusting the tongue weight for the leverage (≈ 2 ft = 40% diminished tongue weight) and subtracting the weight of the hitch and the box, I have about 200 lbs of cargo weight left. That’s more than enough for the things I plan to put in there (bulky but light camping items). It’s very solid and easy to operate.
Total cost is ≈$300
