So my '64 ignition has a little issue. You can turn the key to the first notch and it will stay, but when you turn it to the start position it will not stay. You can hold it in the start position and the engine will run, but I'm sure this is not correct. How difficult would it be to try and repair whatever the issue is, or should I just look at replacing it? I did look at WW, but would rather not have to swap out the door handles as well. |

Verify that your wiring at the switch is correct. These days even the switches from WW can be re-keyed. _________________ Roads Scholar &

your discription the key not staying is that of a correctly working key switch. the start position is supposed to spring back to run position when released. once released the starter will disengage.
now when you say the car runs in the start position, that has me puzzeled. the engine will start in that position, but if you try to place in start postiion with engine running, you will clash the starter gear to the ring gear. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

Do the new switches come with the correct type of key? I had to find used ones for my vehicle.
You might be able to get away with putting some other tumblers in there and having them rekeyed to your locks. Save your current ignition as it may have the key code on it. The locksmith may use this to rekey the doors. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

New switches should certainly come with a spring-back-from-start function, but as for having a "VW" key, not very likely. _________________ Andy T.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |

I just looked it up on their site. It does come with an SC profile key.
I've been unable to find new M style ignition switches. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
