Just get the one where you mount the car inside a sphere. No jack needed. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Tilters look more dangerous than changing a tire on the freeway with a bumper jack.

Before changing a tire on the freeway or any other road, I'd get the car off the road and well onto the shoulder. Most cars no longer use bumper jacks. They were great on old American cars, as long as there was solid ground under them. And of course always set the parking brake.
I'm not so sure why this is dangerous. Factory equipped jacks are safe if not very fast. But at least they stow in the allotted space. Much more sensible than carrying a trolley jack in the back seat or truck bed.
Or is it the FREEWAY that is dangerous? Just be sure you get your flat tire while off the freeway.
I guess you are not very brave, huh?

A tilter needs a brace that bolts onto the ramp. This could be done.Bolt a big sturdy wedge onto it and it would be safe.Wedging a jackstand in there is stupid. I think by the time you 'overbuild' a tilter you could have a Rotisserie though. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town. That's what the vertical jack does. I'd be a bit uneasy about using it like this unless there is a LOT of weight on the jack stand. I'd continue to rotate it till the flat part of the runner hit the floor behind and the weight started to get heavier, then put the jacks stand in tight and let it back to hit the stand and keep a lot of wight on the stand. I agree, I wouldn't want it jiggling around.
SO, anybody have one that they could send me good pics of or drawings so I could build one, Or know of one for sale?

After re reading some of this I see what you are seeing, now. OH HELL NO, I wouldn't tolerate the thing flopping around at ALL. I think perhaps some of these pics are more promotional pics and videos that show how simple it is to RAISE it. I would crank the screw jack way tight , so the car is heaved over and trying to climb the foot (straight)part of the runners. Either leave it there or get the jack stand in then back the jack down so there is considerable weight on the stand, and still some contact with the foot part.
These pics don't really show the body rolled clear over. I suppose for brief maintenance that would be okay, but I'm looking to replace the rocker panel and inner structures of a VW bus and I think I'm gonna be hammering and using some force. And I want it rock solid.
I think we are in agreement on that.
